30 days on Sertaline. Reassurance Please!

I've been on on Sertraline for 30 days now. I have been back and forth between some good days, especially during week 4, but now down with anxiety and low moods for the past 3 days. I thought I was on the road to recovery and stopped being afraid of Sertraline just last week. I'm trying hard to stay strong, but getting very concerned that I've lost those signs of progress and that perhaps Sertraline won't work out for me. I thought that surely by now I would be feeling much better but am still having anxiety and low moods. I keep hearing that something happens between 4-6 weeks but I'm nervous that I feel like I'm going backwards again. Can anybody give me some reassurance as I'm starting to feel exhausted and don't want to lose hope. I've made it this far and do not want to give up on this med, but at the same time, I feel that I should have been through the worst part of this. Am I just being impatient? I feel as though I should be feeling better at least somewhat consistently by now. Any positive feedback would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

hi sertraline is more of a anti depressant. it helps with depression and low moods but if you're still having spikes of anxiety you will still feel low. talk with your doctor about being prescribed some anti anxiety medication because it will help and go hand and hand with the sert. there are a select few anti anxiety meds you can take with sertraline hope this helps

yes, but I don't get them anymore. Just a rough day yesterday this morning but starting to feel better again. I think the back and forth between low and high mood is driving me crazy! 😀

groc you are doing great, your side effects have decreased which is a positive, you are having good hours\ days which is brilliant after only 30 days, hang on in there you are on your way to good days all the time, it is just the meds trying to stabilize that is giving you the ups and downs, as frustrating as it is it does not mean you are going backwards just means they are working

Thank you so much Sue. I really needed to hear that right now. How long did it take you to level out and start having more good days than bad?

Also, I still feel tired alot, To the point that my eyes burn and feel tired as well. Is this something you have experienced? Does it go away at some point?

about the 8 week mark things became more consistent so you are half way there, it will slowly improve as time goes on and yes I had the burning heavy eyes felt like I could sleep for a week but this goes away as with all the other side effects, if your eyes get too bad you can either use an eye bath or relax listen to some soothing music or an audio book with sliced cucumber on your eyes, with regards to the tiredness do not put too much pressure on yourself accept that you will be like it for a bit but it will not be forever

hang in there, i forgot how long it took for the meds to kick in, until i recently had a dose increase. it took me almost 6 weeks before noticing any kind of difference.

Did you just start feeling it suddenly or was it gradual? I'll be on week 6 in 2 days. I just don't see how it could magically work in that short amount of time.

I started feeling it very slowly. I would feel extremely anxious and depressed first thing in the morning and only feel better at night. Then i would have little bouts of feeling "normal" throughout the day, but still very anxious in the morning. and then eventually i woke up feeling less and less anxious. all in all it probably took 8 weeks before i felt totally fine again.
