35 years old, 3 Ablations and still not fixed

Hi Everyone,

i just wondered if anyone has has several unsuccessful ablations and gone or going for a more?

I have had 3 (2 for AF and 1 for flutter) and its looking like i'm going to need another one.

Thats basically 4 ablations and 3 cardio versions and a temporary pacemaker in a year..... its a lot!

I have a bit of weight to loose and i wonder if i should try and loose it before my next op to see if that makes any difference before i go for yet another ablation. Does anyone have any experience with this?

We would like to start a family but i have been told i cannot carry a child with this condition.... i need to get better!!

Love to hear your thoughts,

Lynn

p.s - i cant take beta blockers, they make my hear stop so its ablations or a pacemaker option only for me. When in AF my heart rate is around 175/180 and im in AF every second day..!!!

Hi there I understand how you feel. I've had 2 ablations for flutter. And around 10 or 12 cardioversions. I just had one at the end of August due to stress and strawberries which brings me to the subject of food. Have you tried the FODMAP DIET? It has made a huge difference for me. I went a where year before this last cardioversion Aug 31. I had suspected strawberries last year but didn't heed the warning and poof into A Fib I went. Go to Stanford University and get there version of the diet. Lots of people put whatever online and call it the FODMAP diet when it isn't. So go to the university website and check it out. It changed my life. It really has to do with stomach issues such as GERD, and the vagus nerve, gas, bloating etc. Hope this helps

My AF is all to do with diet . I have to avoid getting bloated, putting on weight , caffeine, alcohol and too much sweet stuff( no chocolate ever)

     eat small portions,little but often.

this controls my AF but it is a lifestyle change

exercise is very good for the heart and must be done consistently.

    good luck

Hi - sorry for you that you have to cope with this at such a young age.  I have had AF for 18 years.  I have had 5 ablations, three for AF and two for tachycardia.  One or two did help, but has not cured it.  I have been told I cannot have any more ablations.  I don't think there is a cure, just management.  I know that triggers for me are stress and tiredness.  Also, I do think that , as the other person said, that there is a food element in it somewhere.  I cut out red wine a couple of months ago,

and am taking magnesium citrate, which has been recommended in the 'Magnesium Miracle'.  I have also had amalgam filling removed from my teeth - one more to go.  Who knows if any of this will help, but at least I feel a bit more in control, rather than passively accepting it.   Best of luck.

Ive had 3 ablations in 18 months too. Bit better but not cured. Off meds but got to be careful around certain foods, dehydration, too hot, too cold and fatigue. Not sure what may be next for me as yet, but just trying to not let it rule me is my main aim.
