36 with the pox

I had been back from a holiday in Bulgaria for 3 weeks. I had started to go running again to lose a few pounds. I started to feel very sore and tired.

I fought the aches and pains with ibuprofen but it became worse. i got up for work on a friday morning and could barely move. When I dried my skin after the shower, it felt sore and tender. I went to work, dosed up on Paracetomol and could not stop sweating. I felt a litlle better as the day went on but noticed large spots on my head and back. I just assumed i was a bit 'run down'.

when I arrived home, i took my shirt off and discovered large blisters. I also noticed a few more had appeared on my head. PANIC!!! I went to the emergency walk-in centre and the NURSE(yes, nurse) said I had 'Folliclitis'(inflammation of my hair follicles). I went home and

within 2 hours my face and head felt like they were on fire. I didnt sleep well and the following morning I felt faint, nauseous and my face, head body, feet, ears, eye lids and nose were covereed in blisters.

Another trip to hospital, this time to see a DOCTOR. He diagnosed Chicken pox(my 2nd dose in 18 years). He prescribed some pennicilin in case the blisters became infected and nasty. They didnt, but I wasn't going to take the chance and took them anyway.

I rested, consumed alot of liquid and very little food. I bathed tentatively in warm water and washed with 'HIBISCRUB'(the soap surgeons wash with). I also covered most of the blisters with calamine lotion and iodine.

I felt depressed, fed up and looked hiddeous. I am now into day 9. I have managed to shave and the effect of the blisters on my head and face have been immense. I wont be ready to go back to work for another 2 weeks, at least. The blisters have dried up and fallen off but Iam left with the scabs and reddening. Hopefully, i will not scar.

My advice is to rest, bath, drink plenty of liquid and get used to being bored. I thought I was fit and healthy and the chicken pox has hit me like a sledgehammer.

Im currently 5 days through my bout with chicken pox and it is the worst thing that has happened to me in my 28 year life! I fully relate to what you went through. I hope it ends soon I look ridiculous.

I also can relate. I am 32 years old and have chicken pox! You can imagine how surprised and mad I am knowing that I already had them as a child. I am a head to toe monster of blisters with very little relief. I was given Fexofenadine and a Menthol gel for relief. I am only into day 4 and can't imagine what I have to look forward to in the days to follow.

I can symapthise as I now have the 'pox' too. I'm 33 and it looks as if my face has exploded. It's my first time and I am at about day 6/7 so things are starting to calm down although my nose is covered in what look like green/white zits and they are just asking to be 'popped' Has anyone else had these rather than the standard red ones?

I woke up this morning and mine have also turned white.

I rang my doctor and he said they do that before they scab up, just when you thought you couldnt look any worse hehe

I am so lucky. I'm 36 and have the pox but it is localised only to my truck and minimal spots. Even these are nasty so I feel sorry for all of you who have been unfortunate enough to have the little bleeders on your face. To think I first blamed mine on the Cat.

I have just be diagnosed with chicken pox today aged 27 and am feeling very sorry for myself! I have red spots on my back, torso, neck face and arms and head but they aren't blisters just red spots. It's nice to know I'm not the only one thanks to all for your posts I feel better knowing I'm not the only adult with what is commonly thought of as a child illness!!!

It's horrid when you are older. I had CP when I was 29 and 6 months pregnant with my 3rd child. It was no picnic.

I am left with hundreds of little moles where my stretched skin puckered after the birth and the scars made little bumps. I have 148 that I can count!

I thought that because I had never had CP as a child I must be immune and offered to look after a friend's small son who had it. I was not immune!!

My daughter got CP when she was 7 and had 6 spots. Doctor thought she had a dose of it in utero, when I had it and had a lot of immunity when she was born.
