3rd op due later this year. fusion of big toe

Ist op was a nightmare, the screws they put in, pushed the bones apart and they would never heal. a year on they suggested taking the metalwork out and realised the problem so last year they repaired it. you now could drive a bus under my big toe its half inch short and sticking in the air. I'll try and attach a picture of the ex-ray. i can only wear sandals and soft top trainers. 3rd time lucky i wish. i have no faith in the NHS here in London UK

they will presumably add more bone for length either heel or hip and redo fusion so toe is flat. Which hospital/surgeon? You are entitled to a second opinion and i think i would be looking for that. There are some excellent NHS foot surgeons in central London and i can give you some names based on own experience. I presume they have explained exactly what they are doing this time and what has created the problem?

    Good luck

they have no intention on lengthening it and are intending on a v shape break ion the bone rather than on the fused area. its just a mess.

Just wondering if you had the 4th surgery and how you are doing now. I am going to be having a 4th for a IP fusion of the big toe that has failed to fuse, yet again. I think I should have been completely non weight bearing after surgery and stayed in the boot longer than 7 weeks. I am tired of dealing with this dang toe.
