4.6cm simple cyst with extreme pain

Hi, thanks in advance and sorry if this is very long.

Last July I had a CT Scan and it showed I had an ovarian cyst on my left side and it measured around 3cm. I had been having some pain there for a while but shrugged it off. It took me until the October to get an appointment with a gynaecologist by which time the cyst had grown another 3mm. Basically since then the pain has got worse and worse and although taking the "watch and wait" approach the cyst is not getting any smaller or disappearing and causing a great amount of pain, to the extent I'm only in school 1day a week if I'm lucky. With upcoming a levels I feel something needs to be done. I'm back with the gynaecologist on 1st April and wondering if people have had any similar experiences? Would surgery be the best option?

I would say at this stage it is the only option as it has not gone away and has grown. If it is now over 5cm they will do this for you now anyway x

Thanks for replying. That's exactly what I thought, I'm quite upset they haven't done anything any earlier really considering they've known it's been growing since July! It's really affecting the quality of my life now and getting me really down x

I know how you feel, I too have had problems since March last year, they didn't find my cyst until November, but because it is small under 5cm the Dr's are unconcerned despite my symptoms and are convinced it can't be that causing my pain- I know it is! Louise x
