4 hours heart palpitations. doc said I should have called 911 (999)

I started taking 25mg Sert on 10th April, and 7pm on 14th i had an hour of palps and had to ly down.
Yesterday 15th, I was feeling calm and reading a book but then I got palps from 12pm to 4pm and felt quite ill but half thought it might be anxiety and palps. So, I thought I would just wait it out. I spoke to my doc this morning who told me i should have called 999 (911) to get a ECG done and would have been able to maybe tell if it was the Sert that caused the palps or something else. Trouble is, I was reluctant to call emergency services dring the current pandemic and didnt want to go to the hospital and pick up the virus as I have been self isolating for more than 3 weeks to be able to visit my folks soon.
Considering I am taking meds for hypertension/high blood pressure (for 30 years) and not had palps before, she advised that I stop Sert for now to see if the palps dont come back, then assess the way forward.
any comments welcome, thanks

After having some more panic later today, I have decised to take a half of a half (12.5mg) to keep something in my system as I fear ceasing totally is never going to help me long term as I am in such a mess emotionally and feel my sanity is hanging on the edge. Then i can work up from 12.5mg slowely.

Hi, I wouldnt stop taking it. Its a common side effect, I had them at the start a few hours after taking the tablet. It does wear off once your body settles on the medication!

I had to call 999 (911) today during more heart pulpitations.
They ran an ECG and said my heart is ok but is likely the Sert causing it, so I am definately off Sert now.
So, heart pulpitations are a serious side effect of Sert for some people, just be careful, people.
I wont try to push through it.

I have had very terrible heart palpitations on this med, and so....One year, on New Year's day actually, I was rushed to ER because I totally freaked out because one of my legs wouldn't stop shaking. I thought it was something serious and I later found out this was another side effect. It's called serotonin effect.
And so, take care. Prayers coming your way. The side effects will get better.
