4 migraines in 2 weeks

Hi.  I am 37 and have had migraines with auras for about 10 years now.  I usually have 1 or 2 a year possibly 3.  but since Christmas I have had quite a few.  in the last 2 weeks I have had 4.  I take Migraleave for them, which doesnt take the pain away but help relieve some of the pounding. I thought the trigger could possibly be dehydration but i read somewhere that sweetners could cause them and I drink sugar free squash which is full of sweetners.  Since last nights attack i dont feel like I can read properly and it feels like my eyes are not working together 100% as normal... I have not been to my GP as both my parents suffer from migraines so I new what they were.  Is there anyting my GP could do that I am not already doing?

Hi Faye, I have suffered for 15 years. Severe aura, nausea and of course headache. I have used oxygen thetapy on firdt onset which worked well for awhile. I also habe a drug called ratio tecnal- it had ben my saving grace. Dehydration/low electrolytes has been a trigger for me. However, not all the time. I take 50 mg of amytriptylline at bedtime. I'Ve also had botox between the eyebrows. My migraines have been reduced to almost none. I do get bad headaches, but mainly due to work stress and Pms. I have also started to practice yoga which calms and workout regularly. Everyone is different of course, but this is what works for me. Feel better soon - M

Hi Fayre, like you, I started getting migraines with aura from the age of 17 but only 2-3 a year and they were controllable with paracetamol. Then about 15 years ago I started getting a different type of migraine which didn't respond to any pain killers and were more frequent. It is worth seeing your doctor, they will probably try many different preventative drugs until they find one that suits you. It may take time and many doctor's appointments but be persistent. Best of luck.
