    Hi Gillian

Is the pain along the scar? If so get working on breaking the scar tissue down - pay a physio to do this if you can afford to - it worked miracles for me. I still have to sleep with a pillow between my legs 15 months on but the pain on the scar line has gone. Hurrah.

I had a very stiff joint - and wrote to my consultant. He performed a manipulation under anaesthetic which, together with physio, loosened it off. I still struggled to walk upstairs and still do.

I still have pain in my bum from sitting and at the front of my hip - and after 15 months of physio and ultra sounds and xrays they can now correlate the pain I have with the information on the ultrasound. I have thickened hamstrings and glutes and my psoas tendon is rubbing over the implant - once I got this informartion I did some research  -which says this is a rare but acknowledge complication from a joint being put in too high / too tight - as admitted by my consultant at the time. 4.3% of THR pain relates to this problem. So even after I got the tightness in the joint relieved and the pain down the scar resolved through massage I still had pain and they now know what its about.

I am sharing this with you incase it has relevance to you - what my physio said was that we had ended up with a lot of secondary problems which were quite diverse and were able to tackle many of them. However the underlying main problem has only really become visible since the last ultrasound. Dont know why it was not picked up before...

So my message is plug away - I reverted to my osteopath along the way and he gave me a tens machine and massage that also helped with some of the secondary problems. But 15 months has been too long - I am still only 52 and fit. So write to your consultant - dont let it drop - ask for physio - and be prepared for it to take a while to get sorted.

    Take care smile

Hi Gillian I am waiting for the first of my THR but I also suffer with a prolapsed dick this means I would have to sleep with  pillow between like you but I use this            [CONTOUR-MEMORY-FOAM-LEG-PILLOW-ORTHOPAEDIC-FIRM-BACK-HIPS-KNEE-SUPPORT-COVER] + COVER I wanted to include a picture but could not its the best thing I have ever used except my tempur bed, it stays between your knees and once you get use to it you will find that it turns over with you. you can find it on google  hope it helps, Ron

Hi, Gillian. I'm sorry to hear that you are still in so much pain. Sleep is so

important to healing and refueling your body. I am still a couple of months out from my surgery and in constant pain. Ironically my surgeon wants me to cut back on my morphine before the surgery. She is concerned about that and the anesthesia. I am scared when I hear stories like

yours. I already have a hard time sleeping, so that's part of the reason I

joined these forums. The other reason, of course, is to encourage

lovely people like us who are going through challenging times.

I really hope and pray that you get this pain sorted so you can sleep well

    again. Hang in theresmile

Hi Gillian.  I am only 2 months post op and even though given the clearance, i still cant seem to sleep on operated side.  not only is it uncomfortable, im nervouse about it.  Are you sleeping on back, then side, then tummy?  I do this and i find that the stiffness and pain is going away.  in the beginning only sleeping on back, i was up 7 to 9 times a night.  now, i am only up maybe once or twice.  meaning, i wake up, then go to the bathroom and then walk around for a few minutes.  it helps get the stiffness out.  before our surgeries, moving our legs was very easy, now it is an effort during sleep, they seem to just stay still.  hoping this helps a bit.  Ginny USA
