Hi, Any tips on trying to reduce pain while waiting for TKR on left leg. Hardly sleeping at night as calfs and thighs of both legs aching, right hip sore, instep and side of foot on right leg very sore when walking and left leg just above the ankle extremely sore. Left knee is painful but right knee is getting bad and both creaking loudly. Both legs swollen in day time. It is now 43 weeks I have been waiting for NHS.

Hi David,
So glad you are benefitting from the Tens machine! Pain from recovery is tough, but it beats the heck out of what you have now. Getting a second ain't any easier than the first, even though you know what to expect, but I'm looking ahead and know it will all work out. You will be fine and you'll know that it was all worth it in the end. Just make sure you are prepared with everything you'll need during recovery. Keep in touch, we can compare notes! Lol
Many blessings,
Cherry🍒

Don't worry about post op pain, whilst in hospital you will be well looked after. They won't let you be in pain, it's usually the 1st thing they ask 'do you have any pain?'.
After discharge your GP will prescribe analgesia as necessary.
TBH post op pain shouldn't be as bad as arthritis pain.
After having had my 2nd TKR just before Christmas I am so glad to have had both my knees done! Pain what pain!
Good luck for your forthcoming op. See you on the other side (of the TKR)!

Just an update, had TKR on 19 March, pain not bad at all and slept every night UNTIL the fourth day when due to be discharged they found the glue had not sealed in one spot and bleeding into my dressing, hastily stop my blood thinners and try re- dressing but stopped me from going home. Fitted a rigid strap support over my knee with instructions not to bend it while staying in hospital over the weekend. Absolutely agony all weekend with cramps round the knee cap and unable to get in a position without pain. Monday morning comes and Surgeon orders dressings to be stripped and redone and a round electrical vaccuum fitting placed over the open wound. The fitting is powered by a battery control unit which he says will ensure the wound heals in a week. Discharged today as no further leaks and have to go back next Tuesday to have dressing and electrical parts removed and see Physios for further instructions.
Can't settle at present but think will get TENS machine out. How are the rest of you ?.

Hi,
So sorry you’ve had to go through so much! Hang in there! Do you still have the electrical devise on your knee? If so you may want to get an ‘ok’ from your physician before connecting your TENS devise, as it too is electrical...just a thought.
Take care and keep us updated,
Blessings,

Hi David,
Things are going quite well, thank you. So glad I had the other leg done, it is doing so much better than the first one did. Once again, same surgeon, different leg, completely different recovery. So much less pain with this one, tapering off of Percocet, so glad for that. Just doing my exercises and working on getting back my strength...jus takes tons of patience.
You have certainly had a trying time, but sounds like you are on the recovery road. Never heard of what you went through, but nothing surprises me with this surgery...that is what's nice about this forum, we hear about everything! Hang in there, you have a great attitude, you will get through this. Keep in touch!
many blessings,
Cherry🍒
