4 weeks on 20mg citalopram. Can’t see a way out

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have been on citalopram for 5 weeks. 1 week at 10mg and 4 weeks at 20mg. I feel terrible. Can’t sleep, no appetite, panicky feeling. I feel some relief in an afternoon.

I’ve exhausted this site and read it can take a while to level out but the way I’m feeling right now I don’t think I can take much more on these tablets.

I felt a bit better last week but now I’ve dipped and I’m even worse than I was before starting this medication and I want to give up. 😦

Any advice or positive stories would really be appreciated right now.

IMO Jo there is perhaps not enough info here for folks for whom CIT is not suitable

I was like yourself and stuck it out for four and a half months when i should have listened to my inner voice telling me that enough was enough at 8 weeks

You will get advice that it can take 6 months but I did a LOT of suffering in that " level out" period that may have been avoided

It's your call and I feel for you. Read all the posts and speak to Kate if you can but have a date in your head a realistic date of hope for some relief and talk to your Doc about it. Don't wait six months if you don't see any improvements in 8 weeks is my opinion

Ride it out and see it through is the mantra but be your own judge on this call (along with your Doc)

You never know.....maybe after a particularly bad few weeks you WILL come out the other side praising CIT for all you are worth 😃

I wanted to stop a dozen times in those horrid weeks and the thought that I had come so far in weeks spent putting up with side FX made me carry on until i finally had had enough

I know full well what you are going through and wish you all the best and a speedy recovery.....which will be along at some point I am sure

    Take care JO
