4 Weeks on and still can't walk unaided

Hi all, I had my THR 4 weeks ago now and I can walk fine with 1 crutch but i'm having troube walking without as my leg feels so week and slightly shorter than my unoperated leg.

My surgeon said that he managed to get both legs the same length as I had quite a lot of difference before my op but they are still slightly uneven ( I think ) and I'm worried that this is why I cant walk.

Other than this I'm doing well and haven't had any pain meds for about 2 weeks.

Has anyone else had their operated leg lenthened and how did it work out?

    Hi LadyCupcake

I have a friend who visits her bootmaker and has wedge shoes that she has an extra 3cm added to. You cant notice anything.  Perhaps have your legs measured and take the required shoe to your bootmaker and have a chat.

I had my surgery on February 1st and am still struggling to walk after eight weeks. the surgeon told me after surgery that he made both my legs the same length. My surgical leg's adductor has been hurting for several weeks, and my abductor is sore as well. The "physiotherapy" I've been given has been just handouts of exercises, no physiotherapy.

    Hi Ladycupcake,

4 weeks is quite soon; you need to use the new hip so it is important to take any meds that will alleviate the pain/discomfort. You can ditch them when you can walk comfortably without aids. Good luck

Hi, I am 6 weeks post op today and just about managing to walk without the cane. Up to 2 weeks ago, was still using one crutch. Today I walked half a mile with the cane, but now have bum cheek pain, groin pain etc.

My hip replacement was caused by a fall, so had no pain before that. I am 74.
