4 weeks on fluoxetine

I have now been on fluoxetine for four weeks and I thought I was starting to feel better, but the last two days have been horrible. Is this normal? Do you have bad days as well as good days? Wondering whether I should ask my doctor to up the dose from 20 mg to 40 mg?

Your going to have to give it longer than 4 weeks..... more like months, but try not to stress about it too much. fluoxetine takes a longer time to work, but when it does, it works very well...... and each dose increase you take will just prolong all the side effects...... id say in another 6-8 weeks if you are not feeling a bit better , then talk to the dr about an increase, but maybe just by 10 mg instead of 20........ it takes time and you just have to grin and bare it..... for me it took several months to feel relatively "normal" and even now, after almost a year, i still have bad days, so the drug does not fix everything 100%. Meditate, exercise, eat a clean diet, and see a therapist if you can...... all these things helped me tremendously in my early days, and in the present.

hi there i have been on fluoxetine for many years off and on. not experienced what you have described but i find it takes 4 weeks or more to have a noticeable and beneficial effect. personally 20mg was fine for me I only increased to 30mg when i was diagnosed with breast cancer and got very low. perhaps you could try 30mg but go with it for now you should notice positive benefits from now on . best of luck
