4 weeks on prozac

Tomorrow will be my fourth week on Prozac. At the beginning I experienced an increase in anxiety but now my anxiety is decreased a lot and I haven't had a panic attack in weeks. I still do struggle with obsessive thinking and anxious thoughts though. I'm not sure if it's my anxiety tricking me (which it probably is) but my mood has been really low recently and I'm wondering if that's just because I'm still in the initial phase of the medication. I also am on my period (sorry TMI) so that might be affecting my mood. Just need some reassurance for this medication!!! THANK YOU!

Hi Katie. Nothing to apologise for, I think we all understand the need for reassurance. I'm almost 16 weeks in now, and the difference has been staggering. Bearing in mind that since this began, I've separated from my wife, my wonderful children are in a different country, and there's the whole covid-19 thing... it's incredible that I'm coping. But I am. Partly down to other things I've been doing, and also definitely down to the fluoxetine as well. Your mood will almost certainly fluctuate for quite a while - bit it improves. There's no lightbulb moment when everything is suddenly good, but you look back and suddenly realise how very far you've come. You'll get there too. Good luck with it - and keep posting here if it helps!

    Hi , Katie.

It is definitely still early, I felt all of these things (especially around my period) during the first few weeks. I would say that around week 6 I really came around. I am on week 10 now and I can't believe how great I feel. I never struggled with depression but my anxiety was pretty awful with my OCD as well. Your body is still adjusting to the medication and it can take up to 12 weeks to notice a difference. I would say if by week 8 you still feel this way, reach out to your doctor and see what he/she has to say! Hang in there!

Thank you for replying!! I have also been struggling with mental clarity and kind of just out of it a lot of times and panicky as well. Did you experience this as well?

I am not sure how to describe it, but it was like I couldn't focus on anything. My thoughts felt sporadic and I just had a lot of anxiety. I couldn't focus or settle down to do my homework for college. I definitely had more panic attacks in the first 3-4 weeks than I ever had in my life. It really is our brains trying to sort itself out with the medication. So I guess you can say I did have mental clarity problems and I also had spacey feeling with lack of motivation. All of that is gone now!! 😃

The thing is, my panic attacks disappeared after the second week. Now I have just noticed a low mood and feeling very negative and just overall not good. along with no motivation at all.
