4 weeks post op

Hi, I'm 4 weeks post op today, didn't have a thr but did have a hip realignment. Have only had 1 physio session so far and I don't have my follow up appointment until the end of this month. Does anyone have any advice? I'm getting around on my sticks, weight baring 15% on operated leg, still very stiff and operated leg is very sensitive. How will I know when I am able to drive again and return to work etc? Haven't had great aftercare so I don't know where I am supposed to be walking wise sad

Sorry can't really help waiting for THR but I think you need to ring physio about extra support/ exercise or the hospital for advice

Aftercare is often almost forgotten in some areas. You really need to make a few phone calls and push your Dr or surgeon for more information and physio work. Surely at this point after your operation it makes sense to see a specialist to give you the right care and attention to make sure you fully recuperate after the main event.

I would be inclined to obtain more after care some how, even if you have to pay for the help. It has to be worth the extra cost for your health and well being.

Thanks for the reply, I have been pestering and it's taken me all of this time to get my first physio appointment and 5 hours away from my surgeon so I have had to try and get someone locally to see me for my post op consultation. I didn't really leave the hospital with any information so I don't know if I'm pushing myself too fast which in the long run may prolong my recovery. It's all very stressful sad

I will be 4 weeks post op this sat, I had my first phyiso this week he gave me a few extra execises to do and told me to give him a ring in 3 to 4 weeks and would reacess and perhaps introduce a strech band I must say that I have been to over 3 of my local hospitals for physio not for hips and have been very dissapointed with the service I had received, thou I once had physio with a private physio but the service was supplied by my GP's group which they had brought and they were fantasic but unfortunately I couldn with them as they had used up all there allowence I think it just depens where you are in the country to the service you get. I would chase them up for more treatment good luck  Ron

Hi, definitely get back in contact with our physio team and b insistent in obtaining more info and support you require. I had to chase up mine following my TLHR as left hospital with just basic exercise nd a physio phone number which I have to make he effort.  In the mean time check out the YouTube site as they have many useful videos regarding hip treatment etc. Best wishes and good luck.

Thank you, didn't think to check youtube! As far as I am aware my local physio are awaiting info from the hospital regarding my op as they haven't had to deal with this before. Are you all recovered now? How long does it generally take before driving is allowed? Thanks

Not fully recovered after 6 weeks. Have been doing my exercises four to five times a day, walking a mle or two each day but on one crutch as hip still not able to take full weight yet. My physio team when I chased them up mentioned I'm just one of those who take longer for muscle and tendon damage to repair. Bit by bit slowly but slowly, no hurry, get there in the end at my own pace.
