Hi I'm now 4 weeks post op bunion and hammer toe correction, I've noticed my left leg is a different colour to my right it looks more redder I'm olive skinned so it's quite noticeable and also my big toe is still very stiff, I lose my surgical shoe in 2 weeks and I'm worried I wont fit it in a trainer as advised,I am constantly trying to bend it but it just seems impossibl, I'm wondering has anybody else experienced this??

    Hi Suzanne

I'm not a medical person, but having had my bunion surgery a few months ago, I would say that the stiffness in your toe is normal at this stage. My toes were stiff at this stage and it was only at my 6 week check that my doctor wiggled my toes and told me to start exercising them. My physio also started at that point and my toes move really well now (5 months post op). I would definitely have the redness in your leg checked out in case of infection. It may be nothing out of the ordinary, but it is worth checking, just in case.

Best wishes for your recovery. It will be worthwhile in the end.

    Helen

Thanks Helen I went to the walk in centre yesterday to be on the safe side and all is well they said it was just because of pressure and swelling but I'm fine which is a relief, and thank you for the advise on the velcro shoes I will definitely be investing in a pair. Thanks again

I should have added that walking sandals (velcro fastening so that they open fully to set your foot in) are easier for a while after the surgical boot goes.

I would re-iterate Suzanne's advice and get the redness checked out. I am at 4 weeks post op and my foot is very numb at the sole. I phoned the hospital who thankfully informed me that all was OK.

    Good luck with your recovery.
