Will be good to see peoples replies, as my consultant and physio both said 12 weks until I could have a bath.

      From my information pack.

You should not get in or out of a bath for up to 12 weeks after your operation as you could fall or slip which could cause damage to your new hip. You should also not use a bath seat or lift until you are told you otherwise.

      Hi Vanessa,

I am not sure what to tell you ... I would have agreed with previous posts but my stepfather had THR surgery 4 weeks ago and took a bath when 3 weeks post-op - I told him Nooooooo, but he did anyway with help ...

      so go figure ....

I guess the getting in and out would be the most challenging for not breaking any rules -

Better be safe than sorry, darling ---

      big warm hug

I was told to keep all precautions in place for 12 weeks , I waited till 9 weeks then had one , just adapted how I got in and out , was a wonderful bath

I'm at 5 weeks post op and was told not to submerge my incision yet.....OK to get some water on it in the shower but not to submerge it.  And to me it looks like it has healed well.       I wasn't told at how many weeks I could submerge it.    I think it would be difficult for me to maintain all those hip precautions getting in and out of the bathtub.  Seems like that would be very tricky.

Hi, do you have a shower at home?  If so I would wait. Recommendations from my hospital state "you cannot get down into a bath for 3 months!"

My advice would be to wait until at least 6 weeks, no matter how good you feel. Maintaining hip precautions would be extremely difficult. One slip does not bear thinking about!

    Take care. X

I wonder if the restrictions (I was told 12 weeks) is to do with wound healing, and not getting infection in it ?
