My story is very long but I'll try to keep it short. 30 year old male. My left ring finger began twitching four years ago. Went to a neuro and eventually had a clean EMG. Got a second clean EMG a few months later and third clean one a year after that. In between all that had just about every other test; bloodwork, EEG, MRIs, the whole nine yards. Eventually they did find a herniated disc in my neck which I had surgery for, but my surgeon was adamant from the start that my neck was not causing the issue in my hand and it appears he was correct. I now have partial thenar atrophy, confirmed by my neuro. My right hand is starting to feel similar, but no twitching at rest or atrophy there so far. I already went through my dark phase of being terrified of ALS and would prefer not to go back there, but it's hard not having any answers. I also realize it's rare to begin with, let alone starting in your 20s and with 3 clean EMGs, but I clearly have something wrong that the tests aren't finding. My neuro thinks it's a central nervous system issue, which doesn't sound good, but he isn't worried. I can think of no other explanation than overuse. I played drums for 15 years, work on computers, and am an avid gamer. Does that sound possible? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks if you made it this far.
