40 yr Chronic cough - Oral Steroids Help, Inhalers Don't.

I'm writing this on behalf of my mother who is in her 60's that's had a chronic cough for man years.
She actually remembers getting pneumonia when she was a child, having a slight cough since then.. has gotten worse in last 20 years, and in last 2 years, worse still.
She has been for all sorts of tests, nothing has showed up. Hiatus hernia ruled out and other lung diseases.
She coughs at night and in the day
Things she has tried..
1. Anti hystemin - works for a few days, then wears off
2. Oral steroids - worked, but she doesn't want to take long term
3. Inhaled steroids/ventolin - makes it worse
4. Codine Lynctus - (morphine based) works short term only
5. Intal - inhaler (non steroid based) not working
6. Montelukast - didnt work.
We are getting quite desperate. She has actually seen a cough specialist who diagnosed Asthma based on the success of oral steroids, however the inhalers (steroid or non) never work and her nose runs after a coughing fit, so not really sure what it is.
Would really appreciate some advice..

Neil - been there, tried everything pharmaceutical, but, either didn't work or was contraindicated. So, researched the alternative methods. Frankincense was excellent.
First off, I bought the essential oil. Also, a tub of coconut oil. A small bottle of Jojoba oil, a small tub of Shea butter. Two teas each of the coconut and Shea butters, a few drops of the Jojoba oil. Mix well with a small fork. Then, add about 5 drops of the Frankincense oil to the mix. Incorporate well. Smear over throat and upper chest. Night time is good. Do a small test on skin first to ensure no allergies. Allergy would be a possible tiny rash or mebbe an itch. I react to most stuff, but not to this.
Can also buy those fragrant infused packs of dried herbs etc. Find one with the frankincense, and can always add more of this frankincense oil as and when.
Can also make an infusion. Add few drops of frankincense to hot water, towel over head, inhale the warm vapour.
Has worked marvels for me. I suffered for years from blasted coughing since coming down with Aspergillosis - fungal inhalation. Horrors. Now, behind me. Good luck to your mother, wish her well.

Hello
I'm writing on behalf of my mother.
She is 53year old.
She is also suffering from dry cough since 6 months.
After 4 month when it actually started
And when it becomes worse we consult chest specialist and on his suggestion we gone through steroid (by injection) treatment.
After 5 days treatment she recovered 95%. Then she used to take oral steroid medicine AMNOCORTIL 10Mg since last one month.
But now condition is like that when is on this medicine she is ok or say she coughing hardly few times a day.
Mostly at night when she goes to sleeping position.
And when she stops taking that amnocortil medicine she start coughing more than actually when she is on medicine and gradually in increasing manner.
So we don't know for what reason it actually causing.
Mostly happened when she goes to sleeping position.
Is it type of allergic cough??
Or any type
Can anybody help me to find out??
