40mg too much????

Quick Question? I have been on 40mg now for about 2 weeks. Started out on 20mg for 2 weeks then went right up to 40mg. I had been on 20mg for about 7 years before that and they made me feel great. Went off cold turkey and really messed me up. I am wondering if I should go back down to the 20mg. It seems to have worked and taken care of my anxiety and depression. The only thing I am dealing with now is being very jittery and a lot of "Brain Fog". My eyeballs are dialated very big as well. I dont know if I can chalk all these symptoms up to the higher dose or if the anxiety is still not under control. I would like to get back down to the dose that made me feel great as I think the 40mg is too much for me. My doctor ordered me the 20mg and thinks its ok but wanted to check with this group if anyone had experience. Should I slowly go down or can I just get back on the 20mg?

I think if 20mg worked for you before, then it'll work again.  I was on 20mg for many years, then maintained it all successfully on 10mg.  I came off a year ago, then restarted them 3 months ago.  Immediately I thought they wouldn't work, self doubts crept in etc, went through the awful side effects and have just come out to the other side again, back to how I used feel.  So I think 20mg will work for you again, but it's a case of waiting for it to kick in again.  I expect 40mg is just giving you side effects again and no doubt will settle eventually.

Did you go on 40mg because you thought the 20mg wouldn't work?  It's just that waiting game again unfortunately :-(

Thanks Kate. My doctor upped me to the 40mg to try and get my anxiety under control because of how bad it was when I went off cold turkey. I had never been on that high of dose before. My mood feels great and dont have any negative thoughts running through my head. I just feel blah and numb because I believe this dose might be too much. I was on top of the world when I was on the 20mg and didnt have any concerns. I think that is the best dose for me but want to make sure I do the right thing.

Yes difficult when the anxiety hits - you just want it to go away.  Maybe stay on 40mg for now then since your doctor upped it, and as you say you haven't any anxiety now, just feel 'numb'.  Yea definitely side effects, and I bet it'll calm down after a while.  So yea, I'd stay on it, and if you still don't feel right after a while then take it down to 30mg and eventually 20mg.  Do it real slow though to avoid feeling unwell.

I found it tough again when I restarted Cirtralopram again.  I'd forgotten how bad the side effects were, and wham! the anxiety hit me!  All calmed down again now and beginning to reap the benefits again :-)

Hope you begin to feel well soon xx
