45 year old Runner suddenly has Plantar Fasciitus

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi everybody my first time on here,.. I have been running seriously for about 15 years and have been suffering from Plantar Fasciitus now for nearly 2 months on my right foot.

I have been attending Physio and stretching each day and this remains a stubborn condition with no real improvement.. Totally gutted as I use running as a de-stressor as I work from home.. Would welcome any help as was aiming for sub 1.30 in the Brentwood half marathon in April smile

regards

    Hello Aligolf,

Sorry to hear about your PF, I know how miserable it can make one feel. I have to say, though, that you might be one of the lucky ones. Let me explain. My husband used to run, only a few miles per week and he thoroughly enjoyed it, but after a few months he developed PF. He stopped running for obvious reasons, rested his foot when he could and in just a few weeks he was back to normal. He never did go back to running because he didn't want to risk getting the PF back again. Now, I have PF and have had it for 2 years but I have never run. It came out of nowhere and no matter what I put in my shoes, whether it's insoles or air-heels, no matter what exercise, nothing works, it's like many descriptions you read about, like walking on a pebble beneath the heel. This is why I said you might be one of the lucky ones provided you rested and did a few stretch exercises with your foot. You can find these on the internet. You might've got PF BECAUSE of your running, in which case you are more liable to be rid of PF in a few short weeks after doing the said exercises and rest.

Good luck, and let us all know how you get one.

Hi Aligolf, I am sorry because if you research PF you will realise there is often no quick fix for this painful condition.....I have suffered for 3 years and tried everything you have to before being offered surgery..... have you tried taping, that may help? but personally I dont know if by constantly putting the PF under pressure by running will help, it needs rest to try and heal, frustrating I know, I have not worn anything other than a post op shoe for the last 6 weeks, but I am focused on a positive recovery no matter how long it takes ...... good luck

oh wait, I see it, OK.  As you age your plantar fascia become more prone to this.  Or it might be caused by a recent change in your workout. But you may need to rest it rather tha n run on it.  It is easy to be too aggressive with this problem.
