45to 60 mirtazapine

Hi,

Its been 10 days since I upped my mirtazapine from 45 to 60 to get rid of some anxiety which I had left based on my psychiatrists recommendation. However I do not feel better if not I feel a bit worse. More depressed and my appetite has also went down a bit. Debating on going back down to 45 or still sticking with it. My doc says it could take 2 to 3 weeks before I see the effects of the 60 but right now just feeling so blah and unmotivated. Don't know what to do cause I know 45 mg was not fully helping me either...but really don't want to add a 2nd antidepressant. Please help any advice or experiences would be much appreciated.

Hi Elizabeth, I have been on 45 for 2 weeks and I am starting to feel worse.... more depressed and emotionally numb... I think when you up a dose you always feel worse at first but maybe the dose is too high?! I am beginning to wonder whether 45 is too high for me too....

      Hi Ala,

Thx for your response...yeah...I've been an emotional wreck today....I know that it may get worse before it gets better but wow. How long you gonna stick with the 45?

I have a doc app on Monday so I shall see how I feel over the weekend. Maybe 45 is too high? Maybe lower dose would also help to treat depression but maybe the numbness would go away? I used to be on Mirt 6 years ago (also 45) and I remember experiencing similar feelings... but I didn’t know then I could switch to a different antidepressant because it was my first episode of depression. I remember that I was better and coping with life but I was never fully myself on Mirt so will try lower the dose maybe and see what is going to happen. If no better will have to switch to one of the SNRI. Depression sucks!!!

Yeah I hear ya! I started on 7.5mg which is when I felt the best but than depression came back after 3 weeks...so psychiatrist kept upping my dose and have not felt myself since. Next step I think would to be to add an antidepressant but really don't want to do that. Finding it hard to wait 2 to 3 weeks to give it a fair chance like my psychiatrist says.

How long have you been on Mirt? Is it the first antidepressant you have tried? In the UK 45mg is the max dose. Drs won’t prescribe higher doses of Mirt. I was writing with one lady from States who used to be on 90mg!! She did well on that dose apparently!

I've been on mirt since the end of March. I wasn't feeling too bad on the 45 mg just a bit anxious. Now I feel the depression instead of the anxiety. Wow...90...I don't know the first couple of days when I went to 60 did not feel bad. Just started feeling bad this past Sunday. I want to give it a fair chance and not sure if 10 days is doing that. I've tried Zoloft and one other serious but they really did a number on my stomach...did not go well with me at all. I'm in Canada.

Hi Elizabeth, thank you for your message x I dropped the dose back to 30mg for a few days to see whether I feel less like a zombie. I have a feeling that 45 might be too much for me...

PS. I think that lady on 90 was fine but she is now off Mirt.

I hope you feel better soon! How is sleep on 60?

      Hi,

I still have anxiety in the mornings so have to take a Clonazepam. I just don't feel like myself. Going to see my psychiatrist on Tues so she what she says. My sleep is good but I find my appetite a bit worse in the 60 mg. I just don't see a light at the end of the tunnelsad

We shouldn’t struggle so much....😔I am the same... I know I will come out of this because I did 6 years ago. Mirtazapine has made me feel brighter and calmer but hasn’t shifted my depression yet....(6 weeks on Mirt). I don’t have any symptoms since dropping to 30 apart from decreased appetite. 30mg seems to be a quite ‘gentle’ dose.... I will give it a few days before I see my doc again. I have been off sick for 2 months now and don’t feel any better really....I sometimes think about switching to something else but stopping Mirt and starting new antidepressant would be tough! Keep me updated! It’s nice to support each other x
