4th revision

Hi All,

I'm new to the group. About to have my 4th hip revision. First surgery in 2011, recalled in 2012 so replaced 2013, 2014 and now 2015 (Monday coming up). Has anybody else gone through the Stryker recall and had subsequent failures? Thanks

    Dear Dale,

Welcome to our Hippies family ...

That sounds terrible - when did they find out that it was the implant that caused problems and what problems did you experience ?

    when is your next surgery?

    warm hug

When I had the original recalled product I was doing very well until about 6 months in and started having a lot of pain. The surgeon suggested I was doing too much but I knew that I had cut back a lot and something was not right. A year later the product got recalled and they checked my metals levels, which had risen and decided to take it out. My next surgery is this coming Monday! I'm not sure if it's best to know what lies ahead or to go in with a sense of naivety and just get through one day at a time.

    Hi Dale

I had revision surgery 11 weeks tomorrow but mine was from metal on metal hip resurfacing to THR.

Sounds like you've had it rough over last few years, hope everything goes well with next revision.

    Good luck!

Thank you! How are you doing now at 11 weeks?

Was coming along well and returned to work at 7 weeks. However I work in retail, on my feet 7-8 hours a day and have been suffering pain in the groin since returning to work. Been trying to take things easier and have noticed a slight improvement but must confess was hoping to be pain free by now but that's not the case. See consultant next Thursday at 12 weeks, see what he advises then.

Thanks so much! I am hoping somebody else can give me a general idea as to how long this recovery will take. The 3rd revision took quite some time. Thanks for the well wishes.

Hello Dale welcome to our group.  What age are you, where did you)have your surgery.  What kind of replacment did you have has it always been done by the same surgeon?  Onwards and upwards love hiLltop

I am 51 years old. I had my first replacement due to degeneration...I was a runner for many years. I got a Stryker ABG model, the one that has since been recalled. I have used the same surgeon as I trust him and has not been easy to find another surgeon to do the revisions related to the recall.
