4th week in 20mg Citalopram. Getting worse.

hello everyone, this is my first time posting.

I have pretty bad anxiety issues, occasional panic attacks, hyperactive thought, and depression. a few years back my GP perscribed me duluxotine 60mg which i took and it worked fairly well for about 2yrs.

After it seemed like it wasnt working anymore so he switched me to Pristiq. 1 month in i wasnt seeing much change so he upped my dosage. things got very bad at that piont.

severe anxiety, panic, uncontrolled crying.

About a week on the higher dose with aforementioned reactions he switched me to Citalopram 20mg. 1 week off the pristiq i felt well but very tired 2 weeks in other symptoms started up heart pain, shaking, severe nausia, so he added buspirone (7.5mg 3x daily) to the mix. first week of that was okay, then it was just getting worse so he told me to stsrt cutting back on the Buspirone. after taking it i would get bad shaking, really bad anxiety, and a feeling of dread. this would turn into a deep depression. afterwards i'll feel a bit better emotionally while having a severe headache. i think im going to stop the Buspirone all together as I had been in the proccess of cutting back anyways.

Does this sound familliar to anyone?

At this point I have really bad morning anxiety that seems to taper off in the afternoon. if i think on former panic attacks and the places I was in for them it will start another one. i do at times seem to have pockets of peace and calm. usually it they happen it will be in the evening.

sometimes i'll awaken middle of the night with panic but can usually get back asleep

I guess im wondering if its worth sticking this out for another month or if this is just not working for me at all

Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

thankyou

    Hi Eric,

i am sorry to hear you're having a tough time, i hope it gets better pretty soon.

I am 4 months in on 20mg of Citalopram and i can honestly say it does get better, it takes a while to feel the benefits of the medication but it does work! I personally started to see an improvement about 8weeks in, but it can take up to 4-6months until you see full effects, please try and stick with it.

I found the best way to get through it is pure distraction, do something you usually enjoy and keep focused, obviously it is had to focus all the time but it is the only way i got through my side effects.

I really hope you feel better soon

    Jade x
