4th week on 20mg

Hi I've been following this forum for the last month as its really helped me. Since starting the Citalopram I've had zero symptoms apart from disturbence to sleep. I've got sick note till December from my GP.

I don't seem to do anything other than sleep at the minute I usually have around seven / eight hours a night. But recently I'll fall asleep around twelve and sometimes I'm not waking up till around 2pm even if I set four alarms I seem to sleep right through them. Aside from very vivid strange dreams I've had no other symptoms.

Anyone relate? I feel like life is just passing me by at the minute. I just have zero energy. I feel exhausted by 7pm.

Yup. I sleep alot better on these tabs. People are often prescribed low doses to aid with sleep too.. Its shluld start to settle in yoursystem around now so stick with it and youl probably find youl still sleep more but not as much as when you first go on them. remember tho side effects can last approx 2 months depending on the person..xxxx

I slept an awful lot too, I still do when I'm feeling down. I figure it's a combination of depression and the meds.

if you're signed off work, I take it you're pretty bad. Don't worry, the medication will settle and as you start to improve, so will your sleep.

Trust me, don't worry and take care.

Hi Charlotte, glad to hear you aren't suffering from too many side effects.  Sometimes being depressed will make you want to sleep the whole time, my doctor referred to this as retreating 'under the duvet'  but it may also be that the cit is relieving anxiety and stress and therefore you're not hyper on adrenalin the whole time so will be tired and a bit flakey for a while.  Hopefully once your body gets used to it and it's all back in balance, a more normal sleep pattern will emerge.  Not being at work will have an effect too, as again the adrenalin needed to function at work or in a busy day has dropped off.  All of this combined with the cold weather arriving will play a part.  Do try to drink lots of water, this is better than coffee and caffeine for keeping you alert and take a walk outdoors in the daylight, which is well known to increase alertness.  Give it time and it will settle down and hopefully you'll feel so much better that alone will give you more energy.  In the meantime, enjoy the rest.

I slept a lot when I first took this medicine - I think it's a combination of the medicine and your body needing sleep which is good for healing too.  It should pass, but if you don't want to sleep during the day why not go out for a walk midday which is good exercise and good for the soul :-)

Other than I'd just let your body sleep when it wants to as long as it doesn't interfere with your night sleeping.

    K xx
