**Hi again, found this forum very helpful when i had my first knee replacement december 2017, now I'm almost 4 weeks post TKR , my bend is much less than last time,**and the night pain unbelievable, still not slept through a night since the operation, and my appetite remains poor, walking slowly with 1 crutch, but everyday tasks take forever, can't wait until i can drive as feeling a bit isolated at home all the time, maybe I've forgotten how long the healing takes but feel things are slower this time, thank you for listening

Welcome to knee #2. I've been on here almost 4 years and have read lots of posts from people who have had their second knee done independently from the first. They fall into two big groups: a. The ones who are having a better experience; and 2. The ones who are having a worse experience. A third group (those who are having the same experience) is almost non-existent.

I was thinking that's probably how it goes too. Think I will have to brace myself for being in the "having a worse experience" group then. 🙂

I had bilateral TKR last year on December 10th. My left knee is so much behind the healing of my right knee, which I didn't anticipate having them done at the same time. I incorrectly assumed that they would heal at the same rate. Being at week four, be patient and don't use one knee to compare to the other. Good luck with your recovery.

Thank you for your replies, very independent lady who is probably just impatient with progress, and a bit grouchy with lack of regular sleep, good luck to everyone else going through this, we know it will be worth it in the end, ,☺

Hi Susan,
I understand that TKR, and probably hip replacements, are a bit like having kids. The first One can be a complete angel and the second one the devil himself!! This maybe what you're experiencing unfortunately. Or perhaps being two years older has made a difference? I've been incredibly lucky so far with my first TKR and because of this I'm having my second one done in January. Really, really hoping I dont find myself in the angel followed by a devil situation lol! If I do I'll definitely be back on his forum !

I'm having my second in January too. We'll be able to keep each other company and compare notes! Good luck with yours.

Someone on another forum who had her second one the same time I had my first was complaining how much worse the second was until a friend of hers remarked that she was saying exactly the same things she had first time round! I'm nit saying that's so in your case, but it can be amazing how our memories can remember certain things and forget others. It was well over a month before I managed more than a couple of hours sleep in one go. I kept a diary so it will be interesting (?) to see how it compares. One thing I do know is that, much like childbirth, that first few days in January when I have my second one done I'm going to be wondering what mad idea made me do it again!
I hope things improve for you soon and you get a good night's sleep before long. I can remember the sense of elation when .i managed 5 hours on the trot. Good luck.
