5 days post op and have some twinges in groin area

Posted , 8 users are following.

i had OA groin pain before the op, and am feeling some twinges in the groin area now.

is this part of the normal post op pain/healing etc?

maybe I am using overusing the muscles in the groin area as I start to move around or do my physio exercises?

i'm completely fine to ride through this if it's part of the normal healing process, but I have read about psoas muscle issues after surgery, and I'm starting to worry a bit that these twinges may not be entirely "normal".

has anyone had similar experience?

Blimey if you've only got twinges after only 5dpo then u r doing well. Mine bloody hurt for about a fortnight. Keep up with the exercises but don't push it too much. Trouble is tho I've said it on this site b4. You don't know if u r overdoing it until you've overdone it. But you sound ok to me

      LDW,

Colin is absolutely right there, at 5 days you are lucky to only have twinges.

I am 5 weeks post revision (15 weeks post op), and still have the occasional twinge.  I have the familiar hippies problem of 'getting the leg going' after sitting down.  Luckily the trick of stampung my leg down hard seems to wake it up.

Do come back here if you get any worries at all, old hands and newer faces are all always here to help.

I had my op back in October last year & may need the other doing. I promised myself to remember the first 2 weeks were pretty rough but it got better from there. Sounds like your doing well, it takes time, give your body a chance to heal and recover. I'm back at work delivering supermarket shopping to people who often are recovering from the op that we had!

    Good luck

Hi I'm 17 days post op from 2nd hip replacement & I was in agony with groin pain before both replacements & for about a week after 2nd. That's all settled now. Physio told me to massage groun with fingertips & ice it too. All gone now & painfree for first time in 5 years. Keep us posted how ur doing x

    Hi LDW ~

I had THR this past  Sept and I have to say I still get a tinge or two...I'm going to just be happy that it doesn't hurt all day seven days a week...I suspect everyone heals differently.  If you have an issue and aren't sure if it's the right thing, call your doctor and perhaps their office staff can help you with the question over the phone.

Anyway, I wish you well in your healing and hope you get the answers you need so you can move forward.

    Best of luck,

    Dear LDW,

Love the comments - I think you are doing great too - You just had major surgery and if you were a little bit like me, pre-op my posture  was terrible due to pain - I had 2 THR surgeries, the last one in September and still have sore groinmuscles - You are doing more and using muscles that have been either neglected or used incorreclty - now that you are changing posture from hunched over to straight, well, they are being stretched and become sore -

If  it is just twinges, it is part of the healing process - be gentle with your self - do some  stretches - slowly erect yourself completely - I stand against a wall and stay there for a couple of minutes to feel the stretch - It feels unnatural still, but poor body needs to relearn so much ..

    How are you doing otherwise??

    big warm hug

I am also 5 days- ish (12/2/16) and got home yesterday. I am on hip #2 and like the first one everything takes time to settle down. It's very early days. I think where you get after pain is due to your surgeons methods. The surgery is quite brutal.

I recommend ice and regular pain relief and ring the ward if you're not sure.
