5 Days Post Op , Pain From Reaching Forward

Posted , 5 users are following.

I had Shoulder Decompression, bone spurs, shaved, scapula scraped of arthritis and bicep tendonesis last Wed (5 days ago).

I have been able to keep the pain tolerable until today. The ball at the end of my sling started falling and instinctively I tried to grab it. The pain was so severe and intense I automatically doubled over. i cannot describe the horrific pain. Ive taken 800 mg of Advil and have been icing but my shoulder is still quite painful on top. If I try to move my arm even slightly in the sling it feels uncomfortable.

I am praying I did not reinjure anything and the pain subsides by tomorrow.

I have PT tomorrow for my eval even though I have been going for a year and a half straight. I will be asking what she thinks.

Has anyone done this after shoulder surgery, jerked the wrong way and felt intense pain?

I had pretty much the same surgery, but not shoulder decompression. 8 months ago.

The day I was allowed to be out of my sling, I had taken it off to go in a store. Well I tried to reach an item and it started to fall and my reflex's kicked in and I tried to grab it and continued to fumble it and push it back on the shelf, the pain was so intense I ALMOST PASSED OUT. I Went straight to my car and told my husband to finish shopping. I sat in the car and cried both from pain and the fear I did damage. I called my surgeon as soon as I got home. I was ok, but it was scary, but over the next week or so Idid similar reflex fumbles to great pain , but no damaging goofs, be sure to discuss with your PT and doctor if you ate concerned, I did.

    BEST OF LUCK!

    Hi Nancy,

I had to take the sling off 3 days post op to bathe.

I was in so much pain from just removing the sling and even with holding my arm up almost fainted numerous times.

After that incident we put the sling back on and in a rush to get my arm situated we put the immobilizer under my arm instead of behind it. This caused an hour or so of the WORST pain I've had in my entire life!!!

I accidentally had this happen again several days later believe it or not!!

This time my poor mother was trying to help me shower and the same thing happened.

I sat and writhed in pain for a solid 15-20 minutes..

My mom was ready to start crying!

She was going to take me to the emergency room.

Since she couldn't find my dr. phone she called my husband instead who told her my sling was probably on wrong.

Several weeks after that I pulled open the fridge and felt a snap but no additional tear. Therapist said sometimes you will feel snaps and twinges because scar tissue is pulled.

I survived all that without additional damage,

So I think you will too.

    I know its all scary.

    I wish you well!

Thank you @Linda41826 and @Max10793 for your reassurance that this has happened to you both though I am sorry it did.

The weird thing is for days after my surgery the pain wasn't bad and I felt like the block wore off by late Thursday night. Sunday I started to feel the pain more. Even at 3 days post op taking my shower I did ok and had been doing pedulums slowly every day from post op day 1 so Im not sure if the pain increase the first week is normal? I was in pain all night and this morning am still.

Glad I am going to PT today so I have someone to discuss it with. Taking Advil 800 for pain but it kills my stomach. Have Tylenol with codeine, was taking them at night to help with sleep so only have 4 left.

Did you both have serious pain for awhile?
