5 months post op depression and anxiety?

Hi I’m 29, 5 months post op from a l5/s1 spinal fusion with a l5 lamindectomy. (I had a pars fx with Isthmic spondylolisthesis. Also had periodic numbness in my right leg.)

I’m usually very active and having this surgery has caused some depression and anxiety the last couple of weeks. (I have seen my pcp about it.) I am finding that I get very anxious when I move a certain way and something pops. I just get it in my head that I’ve messed something up.

Is this something anyone has experienced before? In what ways have you coped with this?

You probably haven't messed anything up, but sometimes we are dealt a bum hand even when we often don't deserve it.

You have youth on your side, plenty of time to get back on track.

I was 58 when I had my operation, and found out it was cancer that was causing all the back and shoulder pain.

Had spinal fusion T2-T7 with 7 months in three different hospitals to recover (6 of those 7 I was receiving 8 doses of chemo)  Did rehab the whole time and although I improved a lot from being classed as a paraplegic post-op I left the last hospital in a wheelchair, but in remission from the cancer.

Had lots of time to think about what happened to me in that 7 months and was determined not to let it beat me.

That was two and a half years ago and I am still improving every day. You will be ok if you stay positive and don't allow it to get you down.

    Good luck !

Ye it's still very early stages and it can take a long while to recover, just take it easy and don't over do it, you will improve over time but it is a very slow process, take care😊
