5 months post op, lower back pain

Hello lovely people, hope everyone is getting on well after surgery.

I certainly am, as I'm back at work, back to my yoga class, booked a holiday and have very good movement in my hip at all angles.

My problem is that after a heavy day at work on my feet- I work in a lab,so walk about a lot- I get terrible lower back pain. My PT says it will get better as the muscles strengthen, but I'm not feeling much improvement. I had a spinal block and wonder if that could contribute to pain. Because I am so tired after work I have slipped doing my post op exercises.I guess that could be the problem.

Anyway, if anyone has any experience or advice I will be very grateful. I'm not one to take painkillers if I can help it, but have had to resort to Nurofen a few times lately.

Thanks a lot, Ali xx

Hello, my guess as to why you have lower back pain after being on your feet all day could be associated with the type of shoes you are wearing, or lack of arch support.  If not the the obvious place to look would be at your core strength, abdominal muscles ect.

At 9 months post op, I get this too - it is ever-so-slowly getting better, but it strikes during commuting as well as at work.  Work is still tiring too - the recovery really is 12 months.

    Best wishes

    dear ali,

good to hear from you again and thank you for sharing !!

DO you think your lower back ache is around the entry point of spinal injection?

to be honest, 5 months - 20 weeks - post op from major surgery is not that long considereing the amount of repair that is needed --

when did you start working full time? how is your gait ? do you feel balanced and confident when you walk?

it is so easy to do the sloppy-tred when you are rushing and getting tired ...

    big warm hug

Thank you everyone for your replies, there's good advice again to take on board. I will try to keep up with the clam shell exercises and also keep the core strong.

Looking forward to some r&r in Majorca next month, should be bliss as hubs has just had a TKR on right side and we both feel the need to flop!

Best wishes to you all xx

Hi Ali, My Dr, told me before my surgery that the hip replacement would alleviate that pain, but would not help my back pain, as I have spinal stenosis.  You might check with your Dr. regarding this issue.  Good luck and God bless.

Hi I have a similar problem, my operated leg was shorter before the op, but levelled up now which has put my sacroilliac joint out of kilter - the joint between tail bone and pelvis.  PT has said the same to me, and I have to be honest if I miss my walk or the excercises before I go to bed I do feel worse the next day.  I too had a spinal anaesthetic and it actually still hurts at the insertion point.  It might be worth asking your consultant what is causing your pain, then work from there - I have a set of exercises for hip strengthening and another set for the back problem.  Good luck, I empathise with you as we've come through a massive event, only to have pain elsewhere!

    Regards
