5 Months Post TKR and I am clunking

Hi

I am now 5 months post TKR and I have always had a bit of a clunk but recently it is clunking all the time. It is not painful but it feels really weird. It clunks around the middle of the knee and reverberates up my thigh bone to my hip.

When it first happened just days afer the op I was told it all had to bed in and was normal.

Is it still normal after 5 months?  It has nit been an easy op but by no means a problem. I am still only at just under 100o flex and it is not still totally straight. But getting there. I no longer take pain meds and can sleep well. I live in France and get great after care, I have pool physio and classic physio plus I work on my excercise bike.

I see the specialist in 4 weeks and I will obviouspy discuss but as we all feel from time to time, is this normal!

Sounds normal to me, Elizabeth. Mine is the same and I had my op Dec 5, 2014. Yours sounds like mine. My knee is still very stiff to bend, but I walk fine, so I'm ok with what I have. Waiting on # 2 now

I hate to say it, but this seems to be normal for a number of people, including me. Mine is normally when I stand up from sitting. But a friend has hers at every step. I'm at 7 months and maybe I did have it happen more earlier. It's more like an odd sensation. Maybe it's feels so odd because the knees are still very numb (yes, both at the same time). I'm praying that after some more time with will stop and everything will just be smooth.

We are at aexactly the same stage. . mine clicks more than clunks, but on each click it also pinches and hurts. . . I'm also not much above 100 . .and about 3 . . so I shall be glad to hear whether your specialist says this is totally normal!!

I will await my clunk to begin soon - I thought I detected one the other day - same stage as you all - still stiff especially after sitting but easing off and sleeping fine most nights. Not quite straight but good enough for doctor and for me - as the other one is not straight either and hasnt had an op!

My 'good'leg actually bends slightly backwards, which is apparently just as bad!

    Hi

I think it is very  normal especially as you take no meds and sleeping well.

i am 6 weeks have just seen my consultant and have been reassured that it is part of the movement, although mine is a little catch and click sensation together with what I call a wobble when my leg moves from various positions.

if everything was good and set up to fit snug then a problem with stiffness could occur, so I think we have to put up with this at the moment until such a time that we have had it long enough for the brain to ignore these incoming signals !!!

i will be happy when I am no longer taking meds and sleeping at night, so good luck to you on the rest of "your journey"
