I had my thr in on December 19th. It's been almost five months, but I still feel severe pain in my operated area thigh . It's not regular, Marines it there, sometimes it's not.

It's painful, I don't get proper sleep. Sometimes it's not pain, but just sleepless nights. It's killing me inside. I went to doctor for any unenpexted infection, but after all checkups nothing was there. Doctor couldnt answer properly. Is it normal.? I m walking now all over for shirt distances, with a stick.

Sorry how you feel.  I have had my surgery 6 months ago and I feel the same way.  The worst part is that I have had 3 appointments with orthopedic doctors and each time the doctors canncelled.  The one appointment they did keep was a nurses assistant and he gave another appointment for the 16th,  I hope they find out something.  Wish me luck.

Irregular pains are not uncommon, I am getting them two and a half years on from THR & revision. When added to sleepless nights, it can be awful I know.

You did the right thing, getting checked for infection, so it is probably muscle pain. Our muscles get a lot of abuse in a THR operation, and can take a long time to settle down. Exercise is absolutely necessary to strengthen them, but can be painful if you do too much.  Most use ice on the affected area, but I have found warmth helped me more - we're all different.

At five months I was back to work, and using a stick mainly for 'protection' on the public transport (train, tube, bus) into London surprised, but I had been commuting for years, so was fairly active before the operation even though I was in my 60's.

    Best wishes

I know how you feel. Sorry you’re having trouble.  I still have thigh pain after 9 months even though X-rays look “perfect”. Have not had any real explanation for this pain either. I don’t sleep well now either, I think it’s because I can’t exercise as much as I did before. I’m not in constant pain, but my thigh hurts when I walk.  I’m in my 60’s and otherwise healthy. I keep trying and trying......walking as much as I can. Alas, my pathetIc limit is 30 minutes at a time, but we can’t give up. It’s a tough operation to go through, it’s major invasive surgery. If you have severe pain in your thigh though, your doctor needs to address that. Good luck, it will get better. Maybe physio can advise you about how long to use your stick.

    Best wishes,

    Margot
