You will notice a difference in time.  Think of the pain you are in right now as healing pain.  A lot has gone on and will take time to heal.  Patience, friends and loud music (to distract the brain) help

I was surprised myself to find out how much pain and anguish was associated with the healing process from TKR.  They don't really tell you much about that, the focus is typically on the surgery itself.  I did not realize that it could take up to 18 months to be fully healed and feeling better.  You just gotta figure that each day will be a little better than teh day before, and ignore any stories you hear of folks who have this done and are skiiing in 8 weeks.  I don't believe it!

    Totallt agree with telcpa.

Nobody tells you any of that!

As far as I was concerned I would be doing the tango within a couple of months of op.

    :-)

At 5 months I would have thought u would be doing better. Are u still home? It is a very difficult surgery. The work is all up to us the patient to keep our knee moving to get as much mobility as we can.

How are you doing w/pain now? R u getting around?

    Hi Danny

You are probably one of the lucky ones but can you say t hat i should be better than i am everyone that has this op is different and recovers at a different pace.I am aware of its up to ourselves to make our knee the best it can be which i have done i don have to justify myself to you  or anybody you just take each day as it comes and get on with life

Sorry if u took my message the wrong way. I totally agree w/ u that we r all different and heal at different rates. I guess because I am 5 was. Out I was surprised that at 5 months things weren't that much better. I have heard that knee surgery is much harder to recover from than hip.

I wish u the best, as I do to all who r participating in this forum.

this is certainly a long road.

    Hi Linda

i haven't been on much recently either.  I'm now 3 months post-op and still suffering.  I have found a brilliant Physiotherapist who says that the Zphysio I got in hospital was disgusting, 5-10 minutes measuring the bend and telling me to keep pushing it back.  That was the extent of it.  Saturday I spent an hour with the Physio.  She did lots of manipulation and fave me lots of totally different exercises to do.

i still take painkillers and though I walk, I don't do any decent walking, just normal shopping.

i expected a lot better as nobody makes you aware of the complications which can occur.  I do often wonder though if I had known beforehand what I know now then would I have gone ahead.  I have definitely not reached the stage of saying this was the best thing I ever did.

i now have a flu type virus, headaches, raging temperature, then shivering and everything I set just going straight through me.  Beginning to wonder what I did to deserve all this.

this site has been a godsend.  Without it life would have been a lot worse.

had a MUA on 18 December and still say that was the best thing I did as at least now I can see improvement.

we will get there Linda, just taking time.

    take care.

    Liz x
