5 weeks!

5 weeks now and after a bowel movement I am once again in excrutiating pain! I had bowel movements two nights in a row earlier in the week and they were nothing like this. Te difference was they were much more solid and form. Earlier in the afternoon and tonight it was all much softer, almost runny, diarrhoea like, which seem to cause most pain. I'm also more prone to the same thing when using the precribed laxative as well! I've now been taken off the tramadol and put on gabapentin instead.Still taking paracetamol and ibuprofen on top of that just to try and control the pain when it hits.

?Having been recommended on here to use a Sitz bath, the nearest I could find which probably is the same thing is a portable bidet. I've been using that for at least 15 minutes each day. Half an hour if able to after a bowel movement! I don't have access to a bath. I also apply Germaloids cream after the bathing.

?The pain is so intense I am unable to sleep because of it.

So sorry to hear about your long recovery, 5 weeks does sound excessive. Have you been back to your Consultant? I saw mine after 4 weeks and had further check-ups as he discovered I had colitis for which I was given anti-biotic pessaries.

I also saw my own doctor several times to ramp up the pain killers. I alternated between them every two hours to I could keep topped up without exceeding the daily doe for each.

Good that you are off the Tramadol, nasty stuff that can cause as many problems as it cures in my view.

Yes, a sitz bath, is the same as a portable bidet! I found it provided a brief respite in an otherwise painful period. Don’t have the water too hot as this can cause swelling.

I did also try placing a small bag of crushed ice up between my bum cheeks to numb everything when sitting. This helped but remember to wrap the bag in cloth/flannel to stop ‘burning’ the skin.

    Good luck with the recovery.

Since the last update I have changed over from Laxido to Fybogel, gone from a looser stool to something a bit more formed and solid. Still the occaisional bit of blood but there is far much less pain! Couple it with 10 minutes on the portable bidet and there is a noticeable change for the better and no more sleepless nights!
