5 Weeks off Citalopram - I have done it!

Posted , 5 users are following.

After 14 months of coming off a cocktail of medication, and finally Citalopram 5 weeks ago am medication free, and starting to feel back to normal again, tapering and withdrawal has been hell for me. It has been one of the hardest years of my life, and could not have done it without this forum. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support and information regarding all this, and a special hug for Lois 😃 who has taken away all my fears.

Yesterday was by far my best day, am going through the windows and waves, and have read often that it can take 6-8 weeks to get over the worst, its certainly looking like that is happening. I am still expecting bad days or possibly weeks, that's normal apparently, but at least all my side effects have completely disappeared, I can even eat normally now which is amazing and my parathesia has gone yay! I have been signed off work for 2 months and due back in January, for me 2019 is the start of my new life and am feeling really hopeful and have made lots of plans.

Like alot of people citalopram has been a lifesaver for me, but not anymore, apparently I now have a severe sensitivity to it, apparently caused by getting older. Time will tell if coming off it was the right thing to do.

That is so true Lois, knowledge has taken alot of fear away from me with experiencing the symptoms so easier to deal with.

6 weeks medication free, and was feeling much stronger, went to a music concert last night and straight after the withdrawal symptoms heightened and have ended up in bed feeling exhausted and lots of neuro symptoms. I wanted to share this with anyone in withdrawal or even starting up as what I read on here the some of the symptoms are similar. I have learnt the hard way today that its important to take it easy and to not over do anything in whilst settling and recovering. Have also noticed that I always get heightened symptoms a few hours after alcohol. Thank god I have been signed off work?
