5 weeks post op bunion surgery, did stairs & now my foot hurts more-was that too soon?

Hi, I had an austin (& another type I can't recall the name of) bunion surgery Feb 21, 2017 & am 2 days away from the 5 week mark.  The surgeon gave me the green light at week 4 to start getting back to walking normally in runners - transitioning back to "normal".  I've been trying, bit by bit, to not walk on the side of my foot, & to put pressure on the bunion area & walk so the foot is flexing like normal, but it's been painful. Yesterday I did laundry & made myself do the stairs normally (3 times up & down total). Now it hurts even to put pressure on the bunion area (ie: walking normally) & the whole area around the incision, big toe, and bunion area are more swollen, red & are burning.  Has anyone else had a similar experience?  I am worried I pushed myself too much too soon.

Thanks so much!

I recently had the surgery, and at 5 weeks doing what you did would not be pushing yourself too hard. I was able to be back at work in two weeks, and my job requires me to walk a lot and fast. It took me a while to get my walk to normal and to be able to put pressure on where the bunion was when walking. I went to physical therapy to help with healing faster. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about doing physical therapy. I had a lot of problems with sensation and remobilizing my big toe. My physical therapist had it all fixed in three months. The walking is going to be hard, and you'll probably have a "wobble" in your walk for a while. That's normal!! Call your doctor and explain what's going on. Ask if he thinks physical therapy would be right for you. Many doctors don't believe in physical therapy, but I promise it really helps.

Hi I had mine done on 26th Feb and cast etc off yesterday. Am shocked at how swollen and large the bunion looks (have just posted about it on here). Have sat with a bag of ice on it this morning but wasn't told to by consultant (he didn't give me any advice really except to put baby oil on my foot and scar as it was very dry)
