50 to 100

I have been on 50mg of sertraline for just under two weeks and can't say I have felt much different! I am a bit disappointed as I hoped for some improvement.

So - some poeple have said it can take longer to get into your system. If so, how long?

Also, if I am moved up to 100mg, what can I expect side effects to be?

Can anyone who has been on 100mg let me know what happened when they took it - good or bad?

What was it like overall?

Thanks!

    Hi Jane,

It usually takes at least 2 weeks to feel any benefit from Setraline. Wait until you've been taking it for say 3 weeks and if you still feel no better at all go back to your GP to discuss.

I've been on varying doses between 50mg and 150mg for 2 years and the only side effect I noticed was a reduction in libido which is annoying but nothing compred to anxiety.

      Thanks

I know I have talked about this before on here, but I just felt like I was losing patience with it, and wondering why nothing had changed. Is 50mg considered a weak/low dose?

      Hi Jane,

As Mazza has said 50mg is low. It is the starter dose for most people. I had to move up to 100mg after about a month or so. I know it's difficult but try not to think about any side effects, they are quite rare but naturally Dr's have to mention them to cover themselves.

It's a positive thing that you have sought help and are now taking a medication that has been proven to help.

I was told that 50mg "wasn't even a therapeutic dose". I took it for about a month and didn't feel much different but the family said I was a bit better. I've now been taking 100mg for two weeks and am feeling a bit tired and headachey sometimes but otherwise fine. I don't feel calmer or anything yet but it's not long enough yet. My doctor said give it six weeks each time. I'm waiting for the revelation talked about on here where I feel like my old self! Stick with it especially if you haven't got awful side effects. My CPN said why would you be frightened of seratonin, which is all it is?

Thanks Mazza. Did the GP say it wasn't a therapeutic dose?! I wonder why it takes so long to actually work?!

I do worry about side effects a lot, and then tend to feel anxious because I'm worrying about them!

Yes, Jane. both the Community Psychiatrist and my GP said it was low but a good start. They don't think I will have to go any higher but I can't feel any difference on the 100mg as yet.  Not much in the way of side effects yet but neither am I feeling utterly stressed when I come to think about it. It does take up to six weeks or more to feel the effect.  Try to stop worrying, difficult I know and just take them. As I said. Score, it's only seratonin which we should have in our bodies anyway. Good luck.
