50mg to 100mg Sertraline Week 6

About halfway through week 6 and my doctor has decided to move me up to 100mg from 50mg. Just wondering if anyone knows that I should expect? Started on 50 so I haven't moved at all until now. Have suffered from awful intrusive/obsessive thoughts in what I believe to be a side effect. Should I expect that to happen again?

Hi Julie, the intrusive/obsessive thoughts certainly got worse although it seems the edge has been taken off my anxiety which in a strange way I've found quite tough as reacting negatively to my thoughts at least gave me an indication that they weren't actually real and now I've not got that. Think I take my sixth 100mg tablet tonight.
Seem to have tingling in my lips and tongue in anxious situations which I didn't have before. I guess it could be the Sertraline.

When I think about it I think I've suffered from anxiety for a while (2/3 years) but haven't realised what it was until recently if that makes sense? It was probably triggered by a busy period at work, a mutual break up and a slipped disc happening at the same. When did your anxiety start? X

He increased it because of my intrusive thoughts and because he wanted to see a bit more progress. I had four good days and he believes that's a sign that it is working (at least a bit) before getting bad again.

Following, I'm on 5th week of 50mg, 1st a week of 25mg. Still having horrible anxiety attacks,derealisation/depersonalisation and intrusive thoughts only helped by Lorazepam. My GP said to stay on 50mg until side effects improve but like you I realise I may need to go up to 100mg as I can't stay on Lorazepam forever! I know 50mg can be a good enough dose sometimes so also interested to hear other people's thoughts. All the best Dav39, we can do this!x x

Hi Dav,how's it going on 100mg? I'm back at GP's tomorrow, still needing to take Lorazepam 1mg (3 x a day) to stop intrusive thoughts and panic so I'm guessing GP will suggest increasing from 50mg,will ask for 100mg but may be take 50mg one day, 100mg the next etc so increase to 75mg and see how I go.Hope things are improving for you,Emily x

Hi Emily, not too badly thank you. I'm having spells in the day that are bad rather than sitting all day thinking about the intrusive thoughts which is an improvement I guess. As I mentioned the other day, the thoughts and the doubt that comes with it feels so real which leads me to think I'm this, that or the other. Like you it's probably the panic. Never taken it myself but I've heard that the Lorazepam is helpful whilst the Sertraline kicks in so pleased to hear you've got that.
Took the 7th 100mg tonight and although I had a couple of days where I felt worse but I seem to be able to shrug off the thoughts (for now). Seem a lot more tired generally. Getting up in the morning is a bit tricky but things aren't too bad when I'm up and about. Let me know how you get on! X

I am currently on week 4 of sertraline. I've been at 50mg for the last weeks and just started 100mg two days ago. The side effects that I've been having since I increased the dose was increased anxiety and loss of appetite again. But other than that it hasn't been too bad.

Hi Dav, I think it will help you get better. 50mg is a somewhat low dose. I think of it more as a maintenance dose. The usual dose I hear is 100mg, which is where I'm at. I too suffer from OCD (pure O), anxiety, depression, etc. I don't think the side effects will get much worse. So stay positive!

I upped to 100 and I didn't really feel the affects as bad as first taking the 50g, I was so worried about the side affects I started with 75 first but only did this for 2 days. You'll be fine I think you know what to expect so it's not so bad plus your body already is used to it. X
