55 yr old woman seems like a period after 18 years of birthcontrol pills..

after 18 years of oral birth control my doctor took me off them..

we used them for the hormone aspect for the last 5 years.

they were the ones that blocked the period or only allowed

faint spotting..

its now been 3 years and today after or during intercourse with

my husband it seems im having what appears to be a period..

im not in pain or having discomfort ..

im due for a pap smear.. i guess im making that appointment..

im not on any hormone therapy.. i do take black cohosh for the sweats

and ginko bilboa for the brain fog.. that seems to work with vitamin b12

im trying not to overreact to this..im glad i found this it helps to know

im not alone in this and its not fatal..

has anyone worried about becoming pregnant ? its not impossible you know.

    Hi Vlamp,

Sorry to hear you are going through this. If you are post menopausal and have new bleeding it is always advised to have this checked out by your doctor. This doesn't necessarily mean anything sinister is going on but reassurance is always good. If everything checks out OK it may be something called vaginal atrophy. When estrogen levels are low it can cause the vaginal walls to become thinner and dry. This can cause pain and bleeding with intercourse along with other symptoms such as burning, itching and unpleasant urinary symptoms. If this is the cause there are effective treatments available in the way of localised estrogen creams and pessaries. Hope you can get to the bottom of this soon and I wish you all the best.

      ty for your reply.

i thought as much too about it being vaginal

      atrophy as well .

it seems to be over. i never needed more than a panty liner.

      it didnt soak anything..

i did make an appt at my local health department clinc for womens health for a pap smear and to see if it is as we think... im over due for the pap smear anyway.

and i did have have the other things on your list as well

burning, itching and unpleasant urinary symptoms...

about a month or 2 ago..i started drinking cranberry juice

seems to have stopped it all.. i have had that urgent need for peeing

for the last 6 years..very annoying..

i havent seen the attending midwife for 3 years.

      they still had my file.

the soonest appt is for august 5th. i gave them all the information

of the bleeding event.. it does not seem like a life threatening event

nobody got over excited about it..no dire warnings and such or warnings to

limit daily activities.. im not in any pain..

i have had so many issues in past such as a cyst on the overies

and pid that caused the cyst..

the local drs. office couldnt see me until sometime in september or october

they consider it only a preventative procedure so its not given much importance

or even requires they have anyone in that office on permanent staff..

i called the health department first anyway good thing i took that august appt..

had big argument with hubby when i told him i called both places..he took exception to me

taking the appt on the 5th then calling the offices to see what they could do..

im going to say this now and i know im going to upset folks but here it is..

whats going on with roe vs. wade is a big fat lie..it has nothing to do womens health at all..

ppl in those clinics have nothing to do with actual womens health..

what im experiencing right now along with others on this forum is never treated in those clinics

they only do one thing in there ok 2 things..the abortion and a prescription for birth control.

      and a pregnancy test..

Go to your appointment on the 5th and discuss your symptoms, hopefully they can advise you as to what is causing it and give you something to help. Our smear/pap tests are very important so it is always a good idea to get that done. I live in the UK and we have a very different health care system here so it's not something I feel I can comment on, but you are certainly entitled to your own opinion. I feel for anybody who feels they do not get the care they deserve or those who do not feel heard/seen. Take care,
