Hi Pauline, I too am 5 months post op and I cannot walk without limping. Physio has helped a little but I'm just told my muscles are weak. I feel despondent too, especially as after my first hip replacement I was walking normally after 8 weeks. I just hope that time will help, and I do keep doing the exercises. Keep your chin up, you're not alone.

Hi Anna, So sorry to hear you are still in pain.  I am 6and a half weeks post LHR op. I too get horrible pain when I get up from sitting for any amount of time. I'm not sure whether to get back in touch with my consultant as occasionally the pain is so bad I feel like going to A and E, but eventually I can manage to limp around againI understand what you mean when you say you feel you are going backwards. I am fed up of moaning but can't help it!!

Has anyone got any answer please?

Had a bunch of tests done and it is a flexor tendon.. i too am getting very despondent and worried that i am nevet going to get better. I did get 2 second opinions recently to confirm the implant is ok. Lets support each other.

Pauline, maybe your surgeon doesn't want to see you (you'll be a problem for him!), but that doesn't mean that you don't want to see him! I think you should insist on an appointment with him, as soon as you can get one. Your back and leg are very painful, you still have a limp and you can't work, each one of which is a very legitimate reason for having a follow-up appointment. If he absolutely refuses, I'd go for a second opinion to another surgeon in a different practice.

This is about your life, and extreme limitations and pain that justify diagnosis and treatment.

    Hi all,

I have had pain sitting since the in July.I would recommend you find a good osteopath.Mine has helped and given me hope. Not a chiropractor,a registered osteopath. They train 4 years and treat holistically and more gently than chiropractors

    Good luck

    hi pauline,

so sorry to hear this ... it seems that we are left alone after THR surgery - Same here ..  except for the follow up appointment, you are released ----

my GP didn't even want to check range of motion when I went to see him but send me back to physical therapist ...

there were many exercises that hurt me and had me down for days afterwards -

at some point I did not go anymore ... I was not improving at all and went back - had another PT who offered some alternatives - deep massages for a couple of weeks and gentle exercises to just lengthen the muscles -

it is so important to be listened to ...

    Could you somewhere else ?

remember though that 10 weeks is not such a long recovery time after this major invasive surgery ... don't stop the exercises completely but do the ones you know - be gentle with yourself ...

    big warm hug

    renee

oops ... just realized that you are 5 months post-op ....

A great deal of the recovery takes place in the first couple of months, but complete return to normal takes longer. Bone around the metal parts keeps changing and remodeling for 1 to 2 years after surgery, which is why you can still feel aches, pain and discomfort for a while ..

this freezing weather is not helping either ...feeling the hardware !

Thank u everyone 4 ur replies and support, its good to know i'm not alone,i also have arthritis in my right hip,so they will say pain is coming from that, tho i didn't have a tilted pelvis b4 op or severe back pain,i had 2 fight 4 yrs 2 get op, as they deemed me "2 young" at 52 its nice 2 b 2 young 4 somethng lol Joking aside,i thnk as surgeon saw xray and new hip is in place he thnks thats his job done!! The after care is shocking,i cant afford 2 go private.....just want my life back. I struggle climbing stairs,i'm now afraid its putting 2 much strain on my knee,it seems 2 b 1 thng after another. I'm not usually a person who getss down, but this is rlly getting 2 me😠😠 xx

      hi pauline,

I agree with you that  the after care of total hip replacement surgery is almost non existing - once you have the surgery and are discharged from hospital, you are on your own ... If you are lucky you received some written information about how to take care of your scar and a sheet of exercises - follow up appointment at 6 weeks and that is it ..

I don't think "they" realize how overwhelming this whole process is - first the anxiety about the surgery, then surgery day and early post-op days ... the whole leg feels like an alien appendix and you are scared to death to dislocate or break any rules ...

I had 2 THR surgeries 6 months apart and my GP did not even look at my legs or checked range of motion when I was worried about stiffness ...

It would be great if there would be a follow up program for people who are recovering from hip and knee replacement surgery ... there is a whole generation still'growing up "

so, this forum is invaluable - we can come here and one word is enough to get understanding, tips and support ...

Hi rennee,ur right bout the whole process being overwhelming, although my surgeon is a vry nice man,he's not interested in anythng cept the new joint,i said "no1 warns u bout wot happens after op,my hair was coming out in clumps due 2 the trauma 2 my body during op" he said and i quote "nowt 2 do with me" same as tilted pelvis was "nowt 2 do with me" well,i did'nt have anythng like that b4,so who's fault is it???? Head, brick wall and bang!!!! Xxxx

I agree Renee. They just don't understand the emotional impact this operation has.As you say we are scared of dislocation and many other unknown problems. This forum gives much needed support
