5th metatarsal avulsion fracture

Hello.

5 weeks ago, i broke my 5th metatarsal bone on my way back home after a nice day on the beach. I've only realized it was a fracture 2 days after when ive rushed to the hospital and an x-ray revealed an avulsion fracture in my right foot.

A plaster cast was placed, crutches prescribed and i was sent home. 3 days after, the orthopedist removed the plaster cast and gave me the aircast tall boot with instructions to weight bear on it instantly.

Now, i am in week 5 and my foot is still swollen with mild pain whenever i put weight on it. Is the swelling and pain normal at this level or should i see my doctor again ???

Hi. Sorry to hear you are now having to find this forum, but you should find the answers to your worries and questions here. I'm now 2,weeks. Since my fall. Had plates n screws both sides of my dislocated ankle, so I may of done a bit more damage than you. But I still get pain and swelling, and been told it could go on for a while. Both had Eased a lot, thank goodness, as at your stage both were quite bad. Now can go without painkillers. But still. Ice foot on days. Hope you don't have to go too long before yours starts to subside. Wishing you a good recovery. S
