5th Metatarsal Broken

Hello,

I broke the 5th metatarsal on my right foot 3.5 months ago. I was in a boot and used a knee scooter for 2 months, and was told to take the boot off about 3 weeks after I was allowed to discontinue scooter use (i.e., I could bear weight on the foot). X-rays show the bone has healed, but my foot still aches and swells after I've been up for a few hours each day, and it's still so painful that i limp. What should I do? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Is that the little toe on your right foot? That's what I broke a number of years ago but I was in a non weight bearing cast for 4 weeks with a knee scooter at first.

    Hi Faye,

Not sure what its like to break that bone but any bone isn't good so hope your doing ok!

I broke my ankle in 3 places nearly 2 years ago, I didn't have the scooter but I did have the boot.

The ache and swelling sounds normal to me. I found when off the foot if I got up it ached and hurt for a bit but gradually went away. I had and still have a problem with occasional pain and swelling, but have been told it should go.

I was in hospital 10 days waiting for surgery because of swelling and was told that the amount varies for everyone so as long as its not excessive you should be fine, although I am not a medical professional at all but just based on my experince.

I hope you recover quickly but I do know from my own experience and comments from others on here patience is required as it can be a long path although depends for all!

All the best and hope it gets better quickly!
