5th toe pain 8 weeks after injury

Hi all,

I tripped over a heavy footstool 8 weeks ago now, which caused a lot of bruising and swellng to my whole foot and my 3rd and 5th toes too. I was bare foot at the time. I had an x-ray 3 weeks after the injury and was told nothing is broken, and had an ultra sound scan last week that said there's no ligament damage, just inflamed joints. My problem is that my little toe in particular is still pretty swollen and very painful, and I can only walk if I have ibulve extra strong gel on it, and wearing loose fitting trainers with lots of cushioning. Even then, I can't go very far at all before the pain becomes too much.

My foot was in a tubi-grip for a couple of weeks, and my 3rd, 4th and 5th toes were also taped up too. I've since stopped using these as I can't put the ibuleve gel on if they're taped up, and oral ibuprofen doesn't seem to do anything. I'm icing it twice a day too, but 8 weeks on now it's really getting me down and stopping me from doing normal day-to-day activities.

Is this something that is just going to take more time to heal, and carry on doing what I'm doing, or should I be trying to get some other form of treatment?

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks.

From what you have said, I would suggest going to see someone else. I'm not sure what can be done after 8 weeks, but maybe a foot specialist may be able to recommend something to help you out.

God luck, I hope you feel better soon!

I read that ibuprofen stops bones growing so I stopped using it for my fractured foot.maybe ask for another X-ray break might not have been clear due to swelling as I broke my 5th metatarsal on 27th may and was just told on wed at hospital I had also fractured 2nd 3rd and 4th metatarsals too wasn't evident on X-ray due to swelling doc only noticed at 3rd X-ray .
