hello Sharon, you are doing exceptionally well after 5 weeks, you have had major surgery and your body and mind needs time you adjust. Don’t rush your recovery, I’m not sure what sort of job you do but returning to work in two weeks is possible but please take your time. You don’t want to undo all that hard work. Listen to your body and don’t rush things work will still be there. Will you be returning in a phased return? Whatever you decide just remember what you have been through and don’t put yourself at any risk, your recovery is much more important. Take care and good luck

Happy21 is right, you are doing very well, this is a BIG operation and a BIG recovery.

Why are you returning to work so soon?

I expected to go back to work at 12 weeks (but due to surgical errors had it delayed by a further 10 weeks).

Also I had a phased return to work - starting at max of 4 hours per day and just 2 days per week, rising to full time over a month.

Congrats on your progress! I'm set to have a thr this summer and am hoping to return to work after 4weeks. Sounds like I might be expecting too much, though I do have a desk job. Healing thoughts coming your way!

Hi Christine ! I just had a THR Monday and was planning. On returning after 3 weeks off as I don't have any sick time after that. I am 56 and have a desk job so hoping I'll be healed enough to return at that time. I'll keep you posted!

      Kathy,

You sound very upbeat, which is awesome! I get my surgery date on Tuesday and am hoping for a June surgery. I woulda love to hear how your progress is going.... was your surgery anterior or posterior? My surgeon does the posterior approach, and though I've heard recovery time is longer, there is less chance for possible nerve damage. Please keep me posted and I hope you're up and about soon :-)

I had posterior and actually started working from home virtually as soon as I got home, which was a lot easier, as it was a matter of sitting at a computer and talking on the phone. I just stopped if I got tired. I think it varies a lot on what you do and what travelling to work is like. I did not start to drive until six weeks, I had no problem driving but was rubbish at getting in and out of the car.

You walk in full weight bearing at 5 weeks post op so your surgery different from me neck femur which is not early weight bearing. Im hoping @ten weeks post op im able to walk withoud aid.

    Dear Sharon

Suggest that you use both crutches until you are walking really strongly with a good gait then you should be able to forget crutches. Using just one crutch is likely to slow you recovery and could cause back related problems.

    Hi

It really depends on how you feel. I'm 12 weeks post op and use 1 indoors but only use 2 outside because using 1 is putting a lot of pressure on my back as I still have a massive limp apparently due to weak muscles.

    Take your time x

aw bless you-its a bit of a disapointment when you dont get better as quickly as you d hoped, isnt it-i was sure id be hobbling round the field with my dogs by two weeks-quite put out when i wasnt(14 weeks post op now,and ive been galloping -ok,walking-round the woods for quite a few weeks now,so it will come). if you have a physical job,as opposed to say,an office job,i think you might need more time off.-oh,and that was my worst exercise-standing on the operated leg only-keep at it,it gets better good luck xxx
