6.5 weeks post op Rectocele repair hard spot at Vaginal opening
Posted , 6 users are following.
My wife & I had sex last night for the first time since her Rectocele repair. There is a hard spot in her tissues right at the opening. I was wondering what this could be. Everything feels tighter but the opening feels different and it hurts me. Is this permanent?

I’m now 6 months on and it’s easier but I’m very aware of the differences inside, and ridges of scar tissue, but My husband doesn’t notice it and says it doesn’t affect him.
At 6.5 weeks I was still very swollen, sore and had a lot of stitches still in.
I can’t say whether it’s permanent or not but I’d imagine there’s still some healing and settling down to be done.

It’s scar tissue, that will soften, BUT 6.5 weeks is very early to be having penetrative sex! 😳 Take a look on YouTube to see the surgery your wife has had, masses of stitches which take a long time to heal. Twelve weeks is more realistic and possibly up to six months.
Patience is very hard but essential for her ......

Yes I agree.. I'm 13 wks hysterectomy and front wall repair and I haven't built up my confidence yet..
I bet she was feeling very sore at that early on.
Please allow her more time to heal, but I'm sure you are supporting her all you can.
When you do have intercourse please us a natural water based lube like yes yes yes. It's so like her own moisture with no nasty ingredients. She can also get off her gp.

For some reason her surgeon cleared her for intercourse & said her stitches would be dissolved by now. Is he overly optimistic? It was minimally invasive.

Twelve weeks is far more likely to be the time when it may get easier for you two, be patient. It is likely to be scar tissue, which will settle down, with time.

Yes way to over optimistic lol.
All consultants have there own aftercare.
If she has stitches then I would not be putting anything inside.
I would allow stitches to heal and fall out themselves. I'm surprised you didn't have scratched on yourself
I'm sure outercourse is fine if she was orgasm but please ask her consultant.
Good luck, you sound a very supportive husband?

They seem to have a standard "6 weeks" policy, but every surgery is slightly different and every woman's body heals differently. The term "minimally invasive" only means the method used does not require opening the abdominal cavity, which can be dangerous. It does not mean "minor surgery", but I can see how it might sound misleading. This is a very long recovery. 6 weeks is around the time that swelling is supposed to be resolving, but if you remember that she has the bulk of her bodyweight pressing down on the incisions all day long, you can see why things don't always go according to schedule. I've read elsewhere that undissolved stitches can cause pain for a male partner, so if there are a couple of stitches left that could be it. Try not to worry too much, and just let time do the trick. The doctors usually say "6 weeks" after childbirth, too, but some women need 3 months if the birth was difficult. This is the same kind of thing. Best of luck to you both!

Hi, much too soon for penetrative sex in my view. Was for me anyway and my surgeon actually said 4-6months recovery for the Rectocele and Vag vault repair I had. Healing internally takes much longer as it's obviously not exposed to air which helps healing externally! All those hard, jaggy bits are scars and probably still some stitches. You sound like a good supportive bloke so try to be patient for her sake and your wife too! lol
