Just hoping clarification. I did really well at hospital on one crutch mostly but home few days all sudden pain groin and right thigh. Was right hip. Being realistic I suppose have had that area sawn into and pulled about so should expect bit nir mentioined tonne also I only began taking my course drydamol in morning and only when needed. Decided perhaps take it like medication do exercises. ?! Is this normal pain as making sleep impossible almost. Feel sure hip not come out lol. More like deep ache ?! X

Hi Bernie I was exactly the same I was only in hospital 2 nights came home felt brilliant and progressing well! 3rd week and my life has collapsed terrible groin pain (in other leg to my replacement though) and thigh/knee pain sleeping is so hard isn't it... I'm 6 wks post op now and seeing surgeon in 2 days. How many weeks are you post op? Nothing you do seems to ease groin pain does it
hopefully the will ease for both of us in time! X

Hi. I'm 4 weeks post op and also had really painful groin at the weekend. My husband was out yesterday all day and insisted I did almost nothing all day til he came back. I spent most of the day with my feet up and today am feeling so much better. Rest seems to work. Good luck

That's what I've been doing, resting, stopped my exercises last 2 wks but unfortunately pain seems worse. I'm guessing may need other hip doing, but I'm seeing consultant Thursday so hopefully will throw some light on it! Glad you're feeling better, there's so many ups and downs after surgery isn't there? X

Everything sounds normal from my own experience. You will need to do physical therapy for a while to get your muscles back working normally again. Until this happens, you will likely feel pain from muscle weakness. You are barely through the first week, so you have quite a way to go as far as healing is concerned. Make sure that you rest, elevate your leg and apply ice packs several times a day. This will help reduce swelling and discomfort.
Best wishes as you continue to recover!

dear bernie,
warm welcome to this hippies forum where we share our personal stories and experiences ..
you are early recovering from a major invasive surgery where muscles, tendons and bone were cut , leg forcefully manipulated to get joint out and hardware placed in ... your body needs time to heal and it will take time ..
also better to take the pain medication regularly the 1-2 weeks so you can move and exercise and probably also sleep ...
it is better to keep the pain free level the same than going up and down, you see - I and many members here, stopped too early because nobody explained why it was better to take them as prescribed ...then taper off under physian's supervision -
are you walking with one crutch outside as well ? might be too early too and better to use 2 crutches (I had a rollator - 4 wheeled walker which was great) -
Rest, elevate and ice ... and come back here any time you have a concern or question ..
big warm hug

Of course it makes sense when you look at it realistically. As you say leg pulled all over place. Seems better using meds regardless. Only thing is I am very early days and can only presume this latest ache thigh groin could also be there must be some swelling hence inruorofen. My bruise has now come out and scar looks less tidy than immediately after when frankly looked like keyhole my great surgeon. But my bad leg feels longer perhaps need let all settle. He says X-rays goid and not but suppose not scared full weight. Clearly not a patient patient lol. Thanks all your advice on here x

Bernie, just remember that they prescribe pain meds for a reason. I started using this forum about 7 months ago after my FRHR. I've noticed that those who tried to come off their meds sooner, had relapses of pain and other annoying issues. I took my pain meds until my doctor weaned me off. I can tell you that I sailed through everything amazingly well. I was also able to rest comfortably during the first few weeks, which is necessary for a healthy recovery.

Hi Bernie....yup groin pain with this operation is a sure thing. I found that icing, heat and massaging the area a good thing!! With all the stretching and all and now using your hip differently than before surgery causes pain and discomfort. Muscles that probably weren't used or used properly are now having to work. For some it's a good recovery for others like myself it's a longer and more difficult recovery. But resting, icing, heat and massaging really do help. Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery and healing!! Hugs 🤗LD
