6 months after total shoulder replacement, I had a fall...

I was coming in the front door with my little dog on a leash...the leash got caught on my flip flop and I fell flat on the floor, using my hands (arms, shoulders) to break the fall (rather than smashing my face into the floor). I have some serious and stubborn inflammation going on, not to mention the pain in my bicep muscle and the upper arm. The doc sent me back to PT but after 6 weeks there wasn't any improvement. I'm back in a sling for a week and taking cortisone pills and ibuprofen, icing every hour. I'm scared to death that I may have to have another surgery...he said my muscles could be shredding. Does anyone out there have this experience? I truly don't know if I could handle another shoulder surgery. I've already lost 7 months out of my life.
Thanks
Eileen

What prior surgery did you have? And also what did your doctor diagnose your current injury as? Also, if you could be kind enough to let us know your age (approx is fine) as age is important in understanding what conditions there might be. Thanks.

I am so sorry to hear of your accident. I have no wisdom to impart to you, but want to wish you the best. Shoulders are awful to heal. So very much patience and work.

Oh gosh, ... that is one of my big fears. I had a Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement in February. I'm hesitant to ride a bicycle even for fear of falling on my shoulder again. My sympathies are with you. One question ... Did you get an X-ray after your fall? I would think that's important to make sure the prosthesys didn't shift. Either way, best of luck to you Eileen.

Poor you; I'm sure all of us really feel for you.Another fall is my worst nightmare. I know what you mean about dreading going back to the beginning again. Not being a doctor, I'm not really in a position to help much but if it were me I'd ask for an X-ray to check your operation site and perhaps ask to see a specialist. Hopefully, it's just damaged muscles / tendons . Although very painful and slow to heal, these will eventually mend. I really wish you well.
