6 months post Shingles..

Posted , 5 users are following.

I am at about 6 month post Shingles and I still seem to just feel off. My energy still feels shot and I still feel fatigued. Its like someone just zapped me of my normal self and energy. I also still have random jolts of pain across the affected areas and light, stinging itching. I also still have pain in my back where I originally felt the Shingles begin. Is this normal or is this just a course of a bad Shingles case running it's course?

There are so many different aspects of this stupid disease. I'd say it is still very normal to feel as you do.

Yeah, just go with the flow. If you're tired, lay down. The lay down again. Make life as simple and as easy as you can. Take the vitamins and eat healthy fruits, veggies, and some sort of protein. Do you live with anyone who can help with the day to day things of life?

Occasionally I get little twinges where the rash site was but they don't last very long and don't really bother me. Have you taken the Shringrix vaccine yet? You definitely should. I had the first one and and will be going for the 2nd one in a couple of weeks.

    Hi Aaron,

I am sorry you are still feeling the long term effects of shingles.

The fatigue and exhaustion occurs for months after an episode of shingles. As Yogi stated, go with the flow and obey your body and rest and sleep when you need to. The Herpes zoster virus is malicious and attacked your entire body, not just the rash site.

The itching, burning, and stinging you feel is Post Herpetic Neuralgia PHN.

If you are bothered by the pain where it is affecting your ability to function and/or sleep, I have specific suggestions and medications you can try.

I also recommend that you get the Shingrex vaccination. You are eligible in the US if you are over 50 years. You are eligible, with a note from the physician at any age as you have had shingles. The UK has more stringent regulations, unfortunately.

Please let me know if you need more information regarding treatment of Post Herpetic Neuralgia PHN.

    Best Wishes

    Merry Juliana

Thank you for this response I guess I underestimated the length of duration with these symptoms. It is definitely a malicious virus never did I think it would cause me to be this fatigued so long into the sickness. I did encounter one doctor however that did tell me the the Shingles mimicked the fatigue of Mono. and could last for months until I felt normal again.

Hope you are feeling better??? Intrigued to know how you are now ... 6 months down the track.

I have had Shingles for four months and now on anti nausea medication. Have had blood tests plus a CT Scan of the abdomen and all clear.

Next step is to examine if there is inflammation of the stomach lining ! Am convinced it is all connected to shingles.

I just want to get through this insidious disease and start feeling my old self. It's horrible, interfering with my day today life.
