6 Months PostOp - Discharge Continues - Help?

Hi all,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
I had Hemorrhoidectomy / rectal skin tag removal surgery just over 6 months ago. The main focus was two external hemm. / skin tags that were removed. I had a very hard time initially after surgery...I got very constipated, and then every BM was insanely painful for the next week or two. Worst pain of my life by far, and I was left in excruciating pain / shock, writhing on the floor in pain after every trip to the bathroom, even when I was taking the prescribed narcotics.
I have seen my doctor every 2-6 weeks since the procedure and he's been checking my progress, and every time I see him he chemically cauterizes the wound(s) with a liquid that burns. He says it seals the wound and encourages new growth, strengthening the skin, but it also makes me bleed all over again for about a week.
He has been more or less satisfied with my progress, and a few months ago suggested I start the "final stage" of recovery, which is the use of dilators / toys, with the end goal of being able to participate in anal sex if I desire, and/or just get back to normal life. I've been using them on and off over the past 3 months.
However, ever since the surgery, I have had consistent mucus / discharge. It is often yellow in color, sometimes brown, sometimes pale yellow / white, sometimes very dark brown. It seems, to me, to be completely unpredictable. I assumed it would gradually go away over time...but now, 6 months after the surgery, it is still there every day. Some days more, some days less, but definitely not lessening overall. I use a gauze pad to catch the mucus / discharge and I have to replace it multiple times a day. My doctor seems a bit concerned and confused about it...and just tells me to keep using the dilating toys...that everything takes time...although he told me I'd be fully healed and ready for anal sex in 3-4 months. I am not at 6 months and definitely not even close to that point.
I've read through similar posts in here, and I know many of you are still dealing with pain, etc. so I am grateful that I am mostly pain free.
Can anyone give me any advice??? I am drinking lots of water, eating a high fiber diet, taking 2 fiber pills a day, and following everything my doctor says...
Many, many thanks in advance!

Hey there!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience being 6months post op. I am almost 11 weeks post hemorrhoidectomy surgery.
I too am still having yellow or white mucus and foam during bowel movements. Are you currently on laxatives or stool softeners? My research i found is that its a sign of an infection within the gut or tour body not being able to break down fats and proteins.
I personally am on the Whole30 diet however i too suffer from IBS and am finding that a low Fodmap diet accompanied with whole30 may he the best bet for us anorectal patients.
I assume what youre experiencing may be from laxatives/stool softeners. Or some foods that are upsetting your digestive track.
Just 6 weeks post op for me my Doctor diagnosed me with Anal Stenosis ( Anal Stricture) Ive had to have in office attempted dilations along with at home every 2 days. Doc gave me a plastic dilator, however after 5 long weeks im still unable to full insert. Do you have any recommendations? Specific toys or dilators that may help or work better? I fear I may need Anoplasty and want to avoid at all costs. Thanks in advance,
Britt

Britt,
I know it's been a few months since you posted but have you had any luck? I have the same problem happening. stenosis from surgery. the dilation worked for a few weeks and now I'm back to very narrow stools again. do toys and dilators work? How does the diet work for stenosis? I'm trying to find a balance between going as easy as I can and not going four times a day. Hope to hear that you are doing better and there's light at the end of this tunnel.
