6 mths Post Hemorrhoidectomy - No better - Can’t Cope

Hi

I had a hemorroidectomy 6 months ago for 2 very large external hems. It was done by a good surgeon privately in the U.K..

It was a painful for the first few weeks but the hem symptoms of burning etc had gone. Then around the six week mark it started burning/stinging again on and off. And now it is back to being unbearable. I can't sit down, so I can no longer work, I can't think, I can't do anything. I am completely consumed by it. I have been back to the consultant and seen a second consultant who have both said there is nothing wrong.

I'm now on Pregabalin for nerve pain and antidepressants. I have a young family and don't feel I can cope with day to day life.

I feel like ending it all is my only way out.

Anyone else out there that has experienced this?

Thanks

So very sorry to hear this. The consultant said nothing is wrong, yet prescribed Pregabalin (Lyrica). Are you a diabetic? I assume you have tried all the natural recommendations like creams, baths, etc..?

      Hi

Thanks for your reply. It was actually my GP doctor that prescribed the pregabalin to try and treat it as nerve pain. And no I'm not diabetic...

Yes tried various creams and have a bath most nights to try and soothe it; and also use ice most nights to try and numb it.

      Thanks

    Hi, Richard!

First off, your statement of ending it all is very concerning to me. I don't know you, but if I did, I would ask you to please seek more help for the emotional turmoil this very painful surgery has put you through. I, myself, am just 8 weeks post hemorrhoidectomy surgery for 3 externals (they left the 2 internals alone, which terrifies me they will become problematic later, or could be the reason for my ongoing pain.) I've seen my surgeon 3 times post surgery and let him examine me. I told him how I still can barely sit at all, I'm on the couch on my side for the rest of the day after a bm, even if it's not a painful one. I work hard at staying hydrated, try to eat what will digest easiest and avoid what won't, take stool softeners, and have already taken 8 weeks off work (If I don't go back very soon, I fear losing my job for good, and I need the money, especially with these medical bills piling up.) My hubby has been amazing through this whole ordeal, and it is an ordeal, but I fear the stress of holding down the fort and caring for me, emotional outbursts and all, is getting to him. He says not, but I've been his caregiver after his surgeries and I remember how overwhelming it can be after a long time. Plus, money worries are no joke, especially when you honestly can't work. Please let your wife know the depths of your worry and despair, and seek help. I don't know how long it will take for your pain to be properly diagnosed and treated, but I will be praying for you and your family that it happens much sooner than later. Please hang on! You say you have a young family and I'm very sure they love and need you with them very much, even if you feel like you are no help to them. Continue to read and reply to this forum. Maybe talking to those of us still also suffering will help you to not feel so alone.

    ALL MY BEST,

    Janet

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation, Richard! Nerve pain, as I'm sure has been explained to you, can take a very long time to subside. Aside from treating the physical symptoms, I agree that it's crucial you talk to a professional who can help you cope with the mental trauma you're suffering from while you recover physically. These things are very linked.

In the meantime, please remain strong, know that you are not alone, your family loves you, this is not your fault, and you WILL get better.
