6 week check

Posted , 9 users are following.

yesterday i had my 6 week check following a tlhr.

i walked into my consultants room upright with no limp or sticks an d sat down .

We discussed my progress and worries .

i can now sleep on either side with no pillows etc and drive .

exercising he said is at my own level and when i told him that sometimes my leg aches very badly he reassured me that this is normal a nd that it will take a year to fully settle.

i had a minimally invasive super fast path tlhr with a spinal and general , no stockings just a tablet a day for 5 weeks .

my consultant carried out both my hip replacements 3 years apart and i reccommend him totally.

he said to continue to think before acting but that the chance of dislocation was very very minimal.

i had a non cemented procedure .

he made me feel a lot more confident and ready to start work again .

i still cant believe that the excruciating pain i was in at Christmas resorting me to a tearful mess has gone and i am now smiling and enjoying life again.

6 weeks ago i could not walk without agony and could not sleep and i was very unhappy but thanks to this surgery life is much better .

This is great news to hear. I'm pleased it has gone so well for you. I think pre op altho you know you're in constant pain it's not till it's gone do you really realise how bad it was. The limitations of mobility for me have occurred over a longish period of time and I've adjusted accordingly so any improvement will be a blessing .

But again well done and best wishes: )

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I'm due to have my op in just over a week and it is great to hear that yours has gone so well. I have read a lot on here about things not going to well, so it was great hearing from somebody who has done so well, I only hope I will be as lucky. Good luck for the future.

Hey Doodle thats great to hear as I remember some of your real concerns before your op!

I could have almost written this about myself as we share almost everything apart from this was my first and hopefully the only THR I will need. I also walked into Hugh's consulting room after he saw me walk the corridor with no limp and upright but its something I constantly need to think about as I can easily resort to walking with a slight limp though I am not in pain so not sure why other than a habit having done it for 3 years or so. I am 8 weeks post op and everyday I am finding it harder to believe how bad I was 8 weeks ago. I am still using a pillow though often find it on the floor in the night but then I didnt ask him when to stop using it. Its great to hear your story and good luck for the future.

Hi Doodle Yes I agree, my neighbour recommended Hugh and I feel so lucky that he did. Like you I push it a little too far some days as working in London can mean lots of walking which I am loving as for the last year or so I have been unable to walk far, but some times I forget that I have a new hip! and then later I feel I have overdone it.
